Oregon tort placement

Up here in Canada it is very hard to aquire signature sps from the US and very expensive. I just got my Oregon tort frag which is a 1/2 inch piece for $100, I know expensive but love it so much. Anyhow I have seen pics of colonies on here that were huge, I need some input on what makes this coral grow fast. Does it require high light, flow? Do you find the oregon tort a slow grower?

agree with you ! hard to find ora corals up here...
but a least in quebec it seems we can get them cheaper when we do find them...
got mine for 35 $ and it is getting about 300 PAR where it is now.
I think it is a relatively slow grower.

Fromwhat ive read, and my experience, the Oregon tort is typically a very slow grower. It's too bad since it is such a beauty, and the centerpiece of my tank. I'm roasting mine, it never seems to get too much light. I've had it under halides, T5s, and now LEDs. It's happy to just sit there. Good luck with yours.

Just got a 1'' frag myself. Heard they are notoriously slow growers. Have it in sandbed for now. Have AI LEDs. Will be one of my centerpieces as well when it grows.

It's one of the slowest growers. Slowly acclimate it, then medium light. WWC had there's directly under 400w halides. It grew fast, but it turned a little turqouise(SP?) instead of that rich blue.

Yah I have mine under leds right now and it seems to be doing fine but no new growth....

nice score, yah I guess you're slowly acclimating it!

I have mine under leds now too and it's fine, I am sure they can handle flow aswell!

Dude that's a score for $35 I paid $100 for a piece 1/3 the size and it was a base....consider yourself lucky!

ORA's Oregon Tort is the same original Oregon Torts that have been floating around. I have had the "original" Oregon and the ORA release and they look identical.

The picture above looks more like the ORA Blue Iris under actinics.....

Looks like oregon to me. My colony is under 400 wmh mid tank. It is smirf blue. I have piece also on the sand bed and the blue is a little lighter.

Extremley slow grower.

Very nice coral, definitely the slowest growing coral I've ever seen or ever raised.
I have mine under high lighting and high flow, loving it.
