osmolator pleasing itself

Hi, have just had a new osmolaor replaced under warranty. I set it up on the tank last night and it ran fine topping it up to the corrct level but 30 mins. later it decided to dump the entire contents of my top up water in the tank (5 gallons!) and the sensor was about 2 inches under water. the other sensor does cut it off but the alarm drives my wife nuts. he unit and sensors are brand new by the way.
Oh it isn't syphoning btw

Can you post a photo of how the unit is installed? Is the controller near any sort of ballast or electronic device?

I am assuming the larger box with the number dial on it is a gas or water meter? It doesn't look like anything near the controller would create a strong magnetic field. I notice that the optic sensor is near a return pump, is it possibly emitting some bubbles? When brand new the sensor has a strong affinity for air and repels water. It takes a few days to overcome this. Rinsing the sensor in hot soapy water can immediately eliminate this problem.

Hi Roger I tried to clean it but to be honest the thing is useless. It tops up to the water level then it's ok for a few hours, suddenl it will just demand more water and fire back up dumping all he top up water in the tank and running the top up container dry. It's driving us nuts I was getting a more stable sg topping up by hand as and when I remembered

Box with the dial is an electric meter by the way.

Could you please set up a test in say the kitchen sink? I would bet that meter is doing it if it is an electric meter. It must work by producing an electromagnetic field to turn the dials based on current flow, that would interrupt the osmolator since it contains electromagnetic switches.
