Osmolator Water Level Question

Ok - I'm confused. Been seeing lots of info on lots of forums. Can you help straighten it out?

From what I understand, the water level of the top off source MUST be below the water level of the vessel it is filling (either sump or display tank).

Since in about 90% of all set ups, the sump will be at floor level and the top off will be somewhere in the sump cabinet, that would pretty much eliminate using the osmolator to top off directly into the sump. Correct?

So, the set up would be to have the sensor in the sump, but have the black top off hose pump up into the tank (probably best have the hose fill into an overflow box).

I'm heading out on vaca next week so any info would be appreciated!

An easy way to over come a siphon is to have the outlet of the hose sit higher than the water level in the resivior which often is not too much of a problem. But if so either "hanging the hose" and letting it drip openly down to the sump or you can take a piece of rigid tube and have the hose trip into it like a gutter to the sump.

So, If I get you right.

If I DO return the pump to the sump, instead of having it fill into the sump, I actually have it fill into a piece of 1/2" PVC that sits say 4" above the sump. The PVC then drains into the sump. Like you said, kinda like a downspout on a gutter?

Thanks for clarifying - anytime I hear 'siphon', I hear 'flood'

Anytime I hear 'flood', I hear my wife saying 'ok, that f'ing thing is outta here'!!!

Oh - and lastly, how have most of you mounted the rail thingies to to the side of your sump? The bracket thing is kind of odd. The Velcro maybe?

Sounds like you got it, I just had mine hanging as the water coming out is just a trickle even out in the open and didnt cause any splashing. I used silicon to mount my holders, believe they tell you which parts to use for this in the manual.

Also before you use it wash the eye off in some warm soapy water. Helps get some production oils off the plastic which make bubbles stick to it for a day or two

Ideally you mount the hose to the tank, it is the safest way. There are several ways to mount the sensors but velcro is not one of them. In my photo gallery I have pictures of pumps mounted with the same bracket to show basically how they are assembled. There are also some small fiberglass plates that can be siliconed to the sump and the rail can be screwed to these plates. Be sure the glass is clean and lightly scuffed where you intend to install the bracket.
