So a few weeks back one of the bald eagles that has nested near ames was flying around my parents backyard with some apparent (yet minor) injury. After they called some people they got the bird taken care of and snapped a few photo's which i thought I would share because this is the MOST gorgeous bird I have ever seen. So here they are

Takes your breath away doesn't it?

They are an awesome creature. I have a red tailed hawk nesting in my backyard that I am watching. Have seen 2 balds flying around but no signs of a nest that I can see. Was it pretty calm while you were holding it?

That's not me holding the thing, that guy I think is from the DNR. And he was MUCH ballsier then I would, he didn't want to even secure it's beak closed, that beak could easily have ripped his face off!!!!

But yeah the bird hardly struggled, unless you touched the injured wing in a hurtful way. These guys' nests are just south of ames off the interstate, so to see this thing sitting in the backyard (we live on the westside in fairly residential area) was quite astonishing!

I would love to hold a bald eagle...that would be a one in a life time deal. Those are some sweet pictures. They truly are an awesome animal! Good job on tacking care of it...most people would not have gone the extra mile to help it!

Thanks for sharing those pictures!

WHen you see something like that up close it's hard not to want to help. The guy holding said it probably weighed about 10lbs if not more, that thing was HUGE!

Glad ya'll could appreciate it!

Wow that's awesome! It would be incredible to be that close to a bald eagle. There are actually quite a few around the area up here now, you never used to see any!

yup "college creek" runs right behind my house so it wasn't in the creek or anything but it's wing was injured and it was just sitting around back here
