OT: Anyone into firearms/firing ranges/hunting?

I went to the outdoor range in Concord today with some buddies from work and had a great time. It was my first time at an outdoor range and everyone there was friendly. A few of us at the range even traded off and fired each others different guns. I was wondering if anyone here into firearms, firing ranges and hunting?

I hunt, or I used to hunt, and will again in a couple of years once my kids are older. Mainly Mule deer, but elk, caribou, and pheasants on occasion. Haven't been to a range in years, but I've got a few guns 'AS THE FIRST BOY TO TRY AND DATE MY DAUGHTERS WILL FIND OUT'.:strooper:

I may get into some hunting someday. I hear elk is kind like beef. Someone told me that they save the good cuts for steaks and the rest for sausage and jerky. My wife mention she like quail but not sure if people hunt them.

My son has a couple years but I told him gun safety first if he wants to handle. And yeah, my daughters dates! :D She has a way to go, I just need a shiny shovel! :D

Yeah, there two in Vacaville I shoot at. Shooting Gallery off Liesure Town road and Guns, Fishing and Hunting off Alamo. Both good indoor ranges. Not as big as Concord I been to today but nice.

I used to shoot back in Michigan, but haven't gotten a chance to since I moved to Cali. I need to get back into it. I've never been hunting, but target practice is always fun.

Yup. Love to hunt. You name it.

Plus I'd rather feed my kids meat I harvested and have them understand what is involved in bringing meat to the table.

Cool kevin95695! Where do you hunt around here. Is there somewhere I can get more info like types of game/agrea. What to hunt with? I don't own a rifle yet...Anyone wanna trade for some frags? :D Is buying a rifle like a pistol in California with 10 day wait?

Me too. I belong to a sportsman club so my dad and I can run our Brittany Spaniels after some pheasants. Its been a couple years since I have really hunted deer as I broke my collarbone and it used to hurt to pull my bow.

As for elk, Love it :D Nothing like some backstraps. I got my 1st Jeep because I used to do a lot of road hunting for deer as well as a lot of fishing.

My younger brother had to wait for 10 days to get his new rifle this season. There are a ton of placed to hunt within a few hours of sacramento. Go to the department of fish and game's website for California and it shoud give you a lot of good info for the different zones for hunting in the area. there are a lot of places to hunt duck and other waterfowl very close to use. If you want to shoot handguns, I go to the Gun Room off of Grantline road in Elk Grove. You can even rent guns there for around $12 plus ammo and a $12 space rental fee. If you go for an hour or so without your own gun it can cost around $50-60.

I hunt paper bullseye's.

There are a couple good ranges in the area; an indoor pistol range in Elk Grove and an outdoor pistol/rifle/shotgun range in Rancho Cordova.

No actual game hunting here, but would love to some day. A friend took a bear one year and it made great salami and jerky.

Check into a hunter safety course. It is a prerequisite to getting a hunting license in CA and it gives a lot of good info including not only safety, but ethical hunting practices.

I've got a few guns. There are some nice outdoor ranges in the Sacramento area, and there are quite a few nice indoor ones as well. Don't hunt much, but love target shooting.

(If anyone's interested in a S-S Ruger Mark II .22 Target Pistol [Slab-sided Competition Model with Wooden Thumbrest Grips] I'd be interested in a sale and/or trade.)

Me too. Been to both. I'd love to hit up either if anyone is up for it. PM me.

I used to hunt a long time ago...
I've got a 9mm Glock for protection
And then I've got a SKS (Chinese edition) which is VERY fun; but indoor ranges will not allow it because it's "High powered"

Cool Funman1! I have a SigPro .40 and just bought an XD45 for the range and home defense. My wife didn't like the big grip on the Glock 20 but was okay with the XD.

Are you sure on the SKS? My boss from work brought an SKS yesterday to the range we were shooting. Looks kinda like an AK but they allowed it. It shot a 7.62mm round...I really like that rifle, very smooth! :)

yes, very nice gun!
Well I have not tried other indoor ranges but the one in Elk Grove (The Gun Room) Said no way in heck... and they have it posted everywhere no "high powered rifles"

I've only been able to shoot it outdoors at the one off Sunrise and something way out in the boonies.

Which range did you go to?

Yes/Yes/No.....hate to clean them

The SKS is the father of the AK-47, my dad brought one back from Vietnam with him after he found one in a cave, if you have the Russian version, that is a collectible for sure, his has the flash suppressor and the bayonet, not just the lug, so that one can't be fired no more in Ca...........The Mini-14 is a better rifle IMO.

If you do have one, these are great places to get stuff for them.

as with a few others.....

Had you guys heard about that new Sacramento Co law making you give your name and address when buying ammo now?

And its too bad that the Great Outdoors on Watt closed and moved to Redding, I thought that was a good store.
