Any suggestions for a nice place to camp in the upcoming months?

Im looking for a place preferably with water (lakes, streams, creeks) and somewhere that allows camp fires. Somewhere off the path. Im not a huge fan of camp hosts.

Thanks!

Woods Canyon is nice.Just north of payson

Agree with Wood Canyon Lake on the rim. They have a nesting pair of Bald Eagles at the lake which are cool to see, its not uncommon for the Eagles to steal fish away from Ospreys after the Ospreys did the work

Christopher Creek. Same turn off as the hatchery on the north side of the freeway. You can camp in the camp area (on the east side of the road before the small bridge) or hike in a bit on the old growth forest side (north side of the small creek) and there are several places you can camp, right next to the small creek. it's definitely off the main path. I've camped there several times. I didn't see a single soul 90% of the time!

N. Rim of the G. Canyon is beautiful and secluded, aspen and spruce there because its 8K ft elev. But, long drive and still cold.

Can't beat any of the Mogollon Rim lakes, mentioned (throw Blue Ridge Res. in the mix too). But for creek hopping, West Clear Creek is very pretty. 10 or 15 min. east of Camp Verde. Lower elev. so prob. nice down there by now. Its similar to W. Fork of Oak Creek, minus the masses.
