OT- Entry Door with Sidelights

Looking for a 62"x82" entry door which breaks down to 36" door and 10" sidelights I think.

Anyways, it must be fiberglass and not steel/wood

I don't want anything fancy and really just a 6 panel.

I priced at lowes and here is what I have

$973 for what is listed above

$1175 for same with blind inside the sidelights (20 year warranty)

I also have a 10% off coupon which will basically cover sales tax + 3%

They are pella. Is this a good deal or is there a better place to be looking.

based on some of the stuff Ive seen at Lowe's (like $5000) that seems like a decent deal to me

is it worth it to you? a good deal to me might be a rip off to you

Doesn't sound bad to me. I just priced Andersen doors and each side light was $850 alone. So two side lights and door was over $2,000.

Call those 189.00 per window people. I see the billboards on the highways. They do a great job with the windows I'm not sure if they do doors...

Check a Hoods - they're hit n' miss - but - you can get a killer deal there on occasion...

Or find a contractor that has a discount @ Lowe's - could save you some bucks too...

Are you set on Pella?

Seems to me you could be cheaper with another manufacturer. I know Eagle makes a internal blind configuration on their windows at least.

If your not set on internal blinds you could do better than Pella in my opinion. Jeldwen makes a great door and they can be had for a poretty good price. Pella like to make you think they have the market cornered on the internal blinds for most applications. Eagles is a great product though, not sure who in our area sells them, I priced them up for a project in Wichita.

The owner had a craving to get Pella and paid the $80K premium for the sticker that the residents will never see.

If your looking at Jeldwen you might consider calling Treecourt Builders supply. They are near Valley Park and I enjoy using them on many local projects. Not sure if they sell to the general public but I know I have seen homeowners in their showroom on multiple occasions.

Anderson dosent sell blind in windows, so they bought this company that does. I forgot to mention that. Its a great window. We used Eagle windows on a different project in KS that an owner originally wanted Pella in, ther're still happy. As is their bank acocunt.

I'm not set on pella at all. Just seems every site I go to, there is no ability to actually order/pricing. Pretty much goes to the manufacturers website.

I'll dig out my info but I have a contact at a place that makes them down in Valley Park industrial area. I had to have a custom made door for my office due to a thicker wall. Even custom build w/hardware was about 450. I'll look Friday. Ange is out of town and the kids all have a ton of events as well as my taxes are due tom. night.

Is this for an outside door? A neighbor told me (don't know how credible) that outside doors had to be metal or glass. Something with local or fire code. Are you in Ballwin or Manchester? Might be worth a quick call to make sure. They can try to make you remove non-conforming items when you sell.

Im looking at the 2000 version of the IRC right now and it does not require the door to be glass or metal. Ballwin is currently under the 2006 version, but they rarely change stuff like this. Even if it wasn't allowed under the current code as long as they have no way to prove it went in after 2006 they wont make you take it out. The only stuff they typically make people update when they sell is outdated electrical, plumbing, or gas issues. Residential code is a lot more forgiving on fire issues than commercial, kind of scary actually. If for some reason they do get their panties in a bunch, another way around it is if you have another 3' hinged door to the outside (not through the garage). You are only required to have 1 exit so if you have a back door that is existing you meet the requirement and the wood front door is not an official exit. If the back door is a slider this wouldnt work, but it isnt really an issue anyway your entire friggin' house is made of wood so they cant be concerned about it burning.. Drive up and down your street, how many houses have wood doors? If they can do it, so can you; they have to enforce equally across the board.

ncox38 - I knew this guy knows too much about county codes for a software programmer. He also told me I can't put in a folding stairway to the attic over my garage because it is a fire danger. I went ahead and broke that law. Does the code book say anything about that? I saved the drywall I cut out in case I got caught when I sold the place. Would be nice to toss that piece out and not have to clean around it for the next decade or so.

He's full of crap. What is the bottom of the access panel? Not that it matters, but all the ones I have seen have drywall or MDF/ melamine on the bottom. My buddy just put one in a few months back, and mounted it so the drywall still met flush with the rest of the drywall ceiling, to keep it clean looking. It is not against any code that I can find or think of to have it open, its just not an energy efficient way of going about it. Attics are sealed off from the inside for a reason, to keep moisture and heat contained in an intermediate space that is vented to the outside. If you just have an open hole to the attic, it kind of defeats the purpose but it is a garage.

Ballwin, and most cities have their City Ordinance online, the only problem is that it usually just references an established building code, such as the International Building Code or the International Residential Code and they just have any amendments they want added on the website. I never bought any of the code books myself but they are probably $100+, like a text book, so they arent free online anywhere.
