How did you get this shot? You appear to be higher than the aircraft. Is this an illusion, or did you get to take a ride in something?

It's a combination of the angle of their pass coupled with the compression factor of the lens. I was firmly planted on the ground. ;)

beerguy- those are sweet shots.

I want to play too. Here is a great shot I got last summer of an F-14

Look closely and you will notice that it is a remote controlled model jet.

Marino420td, that's a pretty impressive model... of an F/A-18 :)

Yep, my bad. F14 is the topgun plane with swept back wings, right?

Not my model but very realistic looking.

If the intakes are rounded its and FA-18 Hornet if they are rectangular its a FA-18 Super Hornet. That is a cool photo , is it a ducted fan or a real mini jet powerplant? Big difference in performence.

"Big difference in performence."

Correct. Big difference in price too.

Ducted fan engine.... ~$300.00
True turbine model engine... ~$4000.00

And I thought this hobby was expensive!

Fantastic photos, Doug. The Thunderbird photos are especially good. What shutter speed are you shooting?

Thanks Joey,

I was using shutter priority for most of the show. I used 1/500th and 1/800th on almost all of the shots. Since I was hand holding the camera and don't have IS (VR for Nikon) I needed to keep the speeds high.

 ...wouldn't that be the truth, for most of us anyway!

I have a friend who does aerobatics. Years ago I went up with him and did loops and rolls and a hammerhead. Great fun then but not so sure I'd do it today!
And that was only in a little two place Citaborea - I can't begin to imagine what it would be like having one of those guys drive you around!

More pics, beerguy
