OT: How many Sprint customers are out there? [opinions wanted]

I switched to Sprint this past February. HTC Evo Shift. It's not perfect but overall I'm happy. I have unlimited data plan and my monthly bill is pretty much the same every month. My only complaint with Sprint is that my family in Poland is not able to send me text messages. I called Sprint and they said that they don't have a contract with those providers. When I was with ATT this was not an issue.

I have had sprint for 2 years. And I have been pretty happy with them. I have three phones with the data everything package. The monthly bill is fairly reasonable compared to the rest, their customer service imo exceeds verizon. In the past few months though I have noticed I am no longer getting reception in areas I once did. I called a couple of days ago and they said they are updating their towers in certain areas and this was a temporary situation I am experiencing.

Isn't AT&T trying to buy TMobile? I thought a deal was in the works but the FCC (?) stepped in and put the deal on hold due to antitrust law.

They are trying, Tmobile has a gamble in it. If ATTws cant purchase them they have to pay Tmo a couple billion dollars and give them access to certain areas of spectrum.

I hope that does not happen. Tmo is the thorn in all those carriers sides that pushed for price drops and forced other carriers into it ATTws buying them is a big help to VZW Sprint and ATTws.

I would like to see some sprint speed test screen shots. I have played that game where someone with sprint goes against me with Tmo and we see who has faster internet

I have had sprint for 4 years and currently have 7 phones on my account. Then I personally have ATT strictly for the Iphone4. Come December Sprint will carry the iphone and I will be going back to their account. As far as quality, data wasnt quite as fast as verizon or ATT, but coverage and reliability is by far better. in the 3 years i was using them i lost signal twice that i can remember. and I traveled ALOT for work. Sprint always worked for me and never dropped calls. ATT on the other hand is the exact opposite. I have a work issued BB Bold nad that ALWAYS lost signal same as my IPHONE.

My suggestion is go Sprint. and if you want an Iphone, see if you can wait until Dec or use a prepay for a bit. then in Dec you can get the Iphone cheap with a new contract with them.

As far as the throttling. This was expected. Where as Verizon invested in coverage, ATT invested in Servers. Iphone stayed with ATT because they were the only company that can handle the data exchange that Iphone require. This is also why it is being released to all 4 major networks now that they are expanding to break up the data between companies.

BTW I was contracted for ATT for 18 months and worked out of their ATT Corporate building so im not really Bias. Just giving you experience from within,

I don't know how to interpret this, but am curious:

ping 204ms
download 179 kbps
upload 539 kbps

This is 3g. I'm indoors, no 4G service.

If you have sprint and an android phone can you download "speedtest app" by Ookla and post up your results?

I have been curious to see their numbers.

Hey buddy

I have Sprint with 4g and tethering.

I stick with them mainly because of the phone and their pricing for the unlimited everything plan. I do about 4k mins a month working on my cell so it just makes sense.

4G can be fast but it varies based on the time of day.

Coverage is not complete. You will lose 4G signal a lot.

Also do not plan to stream via 4G while moving. When you switch towers the 4G does a hard handoff which kills your connection until it connects to the next tower. (if there even is a next tower)

When I am talking on the phone and want to still get the emails 4G comes in handy. WHEN it connects you will get your emails etc.

Also the tethering is cool. We have numerous IPADS and Galaxy Tabs etc. I can bring up tethering and then all the tablets work from wherever we are.

In my opinion if you do not include area and time if day in speed tests it will be a useless statistic.

its still a functionality test regardless of time and day. its a real world test. otherwise its just splitting hairs.

I have seen huge differences in speed based on time of day and network usage. Call it splitting hairs if you want but for me that is huge.

But you are still using it at those times, so those test still matter because you need to use it.

Its like talking about the performance of tires, But ONLY when its;
not raining, not snowing, no wind, no sun, no moon, no.....

I like to see real world tests, Its why I used to have two carriers at a time and could pull out both and compare them up to eachother. (I have worked for every carrier at one point or another aside from US C)

What are the speeds you have seen btw?

Can you send a link about where verizion restricting bandwidth. I have never heard of this.

All phone carriers restrict bandwidth if you are using too much data. In my area my att iphone 4 data beats out EVO and Driod X by alot. I switched to att from sprint ONLY because it was time to get an iphone and they were gonna give me unlimited data. Test your speed frequently with speedtest.net. Got 3G unrestrictor which allows use of 3G when wifi is required like on facetime and when downloading large apps. Also have MyWi 4.0 which allows me to use my phone as a hotspot for up to 8 devices. So if you get hella slow data on ur sprint or verizon phone i can always setup a network and you can use my blazing data. Ha. Jailbreak is a must with unlimited data.
