OT : Infections

funny thing here as i too had severe neck pains starting just before thanksgiving . my neck seized up from a pulled muscle i thought so i took a pain pill and boy was that the wrong thing to do as i messed it up 10x worse by not feeling what i was doing to myself with the pain pill. it took until yesterday with as much bed rest and easing off the work for me to get to the point of actually forgetting that i had messed up my neck . its 99% gone now but lesson learned dont relieve the pain if you should be feeling it as i would have known what i was doing to myself if i haven't taken that darn pill .
sorry to hear of your mishap and i hope that all goes well with your recovery !

Hi everyone, I had to have surgery on mmy neck last night. They went in and cleaned out the abcess. Now I have to see what else is going on..Will keep you guys updated...

Well here is an update everyone. They operated on my neck Thurs. night to flush out the abcess. They also found out it wasn't caused by popcorn. They aren't sure what it was caused by. Most likely was caused by a cut that got infected(either from my tank or at work). The anti-biotics weren't working cause they couldn't penetrate the abcess. They still don't know what type of infection it is (they are growing cultures to find out what it is). Hopefully will be going home Mon. or Tues.

Still limited as to what I can do. Pik line still in my arm and have stitches in my neck w/sterie strips and have to wear a neck brace for at least another two weeks. The neck brace maybe longer. Then probably another 2 months of antibiotics in pill form. Hoping to go back to work on Feb.1.

Did they ever isolate a specific microorganism Henry? I mean I'm not asking you to discuss specifics on an open forum, just wondering. That should make your providers more optimistic about your chosen antibiotic regimen. Especially now that the abscess has been debulked. Being on antibiotics via PICC line pre-op can certainly skew culture results, even if they aren't treating for the right bug initially.

Bottom line, glad you're home!

Thanks Guys
Mark I think it's osteo myalitis (spelling) is what they are treating me for.
Both antibiotics are broad spectrum and all of the preliminary cultures came back with no results or negative.
//they have two more cultures to go but it can take up to a month to get results for those.

Well got the pik line out of my arm today!!!! WOOT!!!!!
Two more sterrie strips left on my neck(gonna have a nice scar) and hopefully back to work on the 1st of Feb..
