ok any of you with kids i could use some help lol

my kid which is four will not go or sit for a hair cut without a huge fight over it. i hate to have to hold him down for it as every time that has been done it comes out all jacked up. any ideas or tricks on tricking him into it?

thanks
frustrated dad

lolol no kidding this is a joke i tried today three time to trick him

first was after haircut we would go to toy store and buy him some new legos he said no lets go home

2nd was after we get haircut we would go buy a new fish nope

3rd he would not take a nap so i say ok lets go for a haircut he lays down right way and closed his eyes and went to sleep

yea we have done that and also have a friend thats close to him try to cut his hair and nope huge fit over it

i am lost minus the cough syrup lol

Even a non-scissors cut? Best advice is to let it go for 3 months or so and then try again.

I have the same problem with my son who is about to turn three. I gave up on taking him to the barber.
This is embarrassing to say, but I ended up getting a flowbee and since he likes the vacuum he lets me cut his hair that way.

scissors & buzz clippers freak him how to no end

i will have to hold his head while someone holds his arms not fun at all

Try to figure out why exactly he is freaking out over it. Talk to him and if possible let him see a couple of haircuts up close and personal without him actually getting a haircut. Let him see that no harm comes to anyone and that he is completely safe.

Maybe. But with a 4-yr old, often best to drop it for an extended period and try after. No harm will come from long hair.

I have a 4 yr old so I am not just spouting random ideas.

Two words: Duct Tape

Are you taking him to a regular barber or salon? Have you tried one of those places where the chair is a fire truck and they can watch DVDs and play nintendo while they get their hair cut? I take my 5 year old daughter there and she loves it. When they are done there is even a prize bucket they can pick from.

Never meant to imply you were. It all depends on how frequently they have brought up the subject with him. At least, that's what we've learned by the 2nd time through. Sometimes reason works. Sometimes it only produces more hysterics.

My sense is this has been an ongoing thing for a while, which is why I recommend dropping it for a while, as this is one of those things that can, in fact, be safely left alone for a while.
