Ot: Lakers vs Magic

McDyess to the Spurs... he's not what he once was, that is obvious. But McDyess will be a nice addition of some added depth at the PF/C position. He does have a nice shot for a big man, so it could help spread the floor a little.

Im again going to vent and say how disgusted I am that Orlando is done making moves. We would have been much better/deeper if we kept Lee and just signed Marion for free. It would have been the same amount of cash we have invested in VC.

joe, remember they gave up kurt thomas AND oberto to get rj. if they're so vehement about calling timmy a PF, then they have a major hole at center still. something tells me they're going to have a chemistry problem. who are their 3pt shooters to spread the floor?

i agree about orlando's poor decisionmaking. but honestly, are you THAT suprised? the same braintrust signed rashard lewis to a max deal... and prior to that, traded tmac for steve francis.

marion thinks he's worth at least 9mil/year. i believe that's what the raptors were offering. he wasn't going to take less money to come to orlando, who wouldn't offer that much to turk... i really don't blame these guys, considering the economy- i bet a lot of these guys throw money around and got really terrible financial advice over the years and probably never so much as followed what they were invested in. i would take the money too.

Would it be funny if Shaq signed up with the Spurs? lol.. can you say oldies reunion

Marion wouldnt have needed to take less than $10m a year. Courtney Lee was only making a bit over $1m a year, so we'd actually save money, and have kept talent. The tmac trade wasnt really Orlando's fault. He didnt want to come back, and they didnt want to get burned like Shaq did to them 8 years prior. It was for Francis and mobley, FTR lol.

I think San Antonio is going to get burned, because the bucks were expected to just release Oberto, and he was going to go back to San Antonio. It doesnt look like thats the case since there is demand for oberto.

Marion just signed for 5 years, $40m. He will be a Mav after the sign and trade is completed tomorrow. There goes that. I love me some Matrix, hes an absolute stud. He should be a top 25 player again this year with a more open offense.

On an interesting note... Verajao just signed for 6 years and $50m LOL. Come on now, $50m for that bum? Thats not going to be a contract they regret, right? I was wondering what the heck he was thinking opting out of his $6m he was going to earn next year. I guess he knew something we all didnt lol. BTW, Orlando drafted him also lol.

"The Old Skool!" commercial! :D

"Orlando Acquires Future Considerations in Four-Team Trade

Orlando, FL â€"œ The Orlando Magic have acquired a trade exception and cash considerations from the Toronto Raptors, and cash considerations from the Dallas Mavericks as part of a four-team trade, General Manager Otis Smith announced today. As part of a sign-and-trade deal, forward Hedo Turkoglu was traded to Toronto.

“This move allows us some potential flexibility in the future,” said Smith. “Hedo was a big part of our success and did a lot for our organization during his five seasons here. We wish him and his family nothing but the best.”

Also included as parts of the deal - Toronto sends Shawn Marion, Kris Humphries, Nathan Jawai and cash considerations to Dallas, while also sending a future second round draft pick to Memphis; Memphis sends Greg Buckner to Dallas; Dallas sends Jerry Stackhouse and cash considerations to Memphis, while also sending Devean George and Antoine Wright to Toronto. "

One more positive move for Otis. We are so close to being the team to beat in the East. At least we got something for nothing, since Hedo was gone. From my understand, now we can spend that Hedo contract on a free agent, and not have to pay the luxury tax. Maybe that means we can pick up 2 decent players, since we dont need anymore stars. I think a couple nice pick ups would be Hakim Warrick and Melvin Ely. I really like Warrick's length, I think he'd be a nice addition to any team. We would probably go into the luxury tax bracket with those signings (just barely), but that cash from Toronto and Dallas would sure help offset it....

Yeah, Warrick and Ely would be good additions to Orlando. Funny story, I actually played ball with Melvin Ely when he was still at Fresno State..granted they were practice runs but one of the nicest guys. So Joe, do you think Orlando will make a serious run at Lebron in 2010-2011?

No, Orlando wont be able to afford Lebron. As great as he is, Lebron wouldnt be my first choice of players in 2010-11. Id rather have Dwade and keep a LITTLE bit of some money. Lebron hasnt showed maturity, and I dont think he gives as good of a chance to win, as D wade does.

This trade that just happened gives Orlando $8m in a trade exception, then its rumored Toronto and Dallas are giving a combined $3-4M (those #s arent released I dont believe). So $12m is a nice chunk to spend. You could get Warrick for probably $4-5m, and Melvin for $4-5m a year also. Thatd still save Orlando $2m to keep incase we need to make a trade around the deadline.

If hes willing to play about 20-30 minutes a game.. Maybe... just maybe.. Allen Iverson would be an ok addition. Theres not much demand for him it doesnt seem like. Hes made his money, now he SHOULD want a ring. Signing AI would give us a nice option at the 2. AI for scoring, pietrus for defensive/scoring purposes.

I'm just throwing that out there, lol.

I think ORL did pretty well this off season so far, compared to the Cavs.

In other news, LeBron just got posterized by some kid in a summer camp.. but the video was confiscated by Nike

Compared to Cleveland, yes. But compared to Boston adding Wallace and basically KG, we are looking like #2 in the East. I dont think Otis will just sit put, though.

lol, iverson and vc on the same backcourt? that's a match made in... (can't come up w/ an adequate metaphor that even begins to describe a disaster of this magnitude).
as far as marion goes, i don't think he has it anymore. i think we can can easily attribute much of his productivity in seasons prior to last to the d'antoni effect. he couldn't get it done alongside d. wade and he still looked pretty weak in toronto. even at 8 mil, i don't think it's a deal... but it still would've been much better than vc the cancer.

He looked weak in Toronto at 14 and 8? Anyways, hes a Maverick, and Orlando gained cash and a trade exception, so another move or two WILL be made. Im not too worried, Im just curious WHAT the move would be. Id say its a little unfair to call VC a cancer.

So why have the lakers not signed odom? We signed shandon already. I hope we do not lose odom, he is a key piece on the team.

Ronron already made a rap and promised Michael Jackson he'll see him in heaven.. NEXT YEAR. How sweet would that be if Orlando could sign Odom.... We have a lot of cap space now.

Well there goes your chance to sign Odom...lol..

"The Orlando Magic are trying to keep up in the arms race in the competitive Eastern Conference, agreeing to terms on Friday with free agent forward Brandon Bass on a four-year deal believed to be worth $18 million."
