gt dhi down hill bike sold once the resorts closed down the big bikes.
and have a giant carbon road bike mixed group on it.

looks like i have pedaled a few miles =)

I'm down for a ride... Can we try to make it something here in the OC though? Riverside is BOILING hot in the summer.

Willing to do any kind of ride except for a boring XC "lets climb till we puke" kind of ride. More of a downhiller/free-rider that accepts the climbs as a part of getting the b1tchin downhills.

Started as a roadie/courier in Boston, but picked up Mtnbikes in '97 when I moved to NorCal.

Schwinn Mesa - Stolen
Schwinn Homegrown HT - Still have but in parts
Ellsworth Dare - Snapped the seat-tube at the rocker mount
Schwinn Straight-8 - Sold because it was a "pull" shock
Santa Cruz V-10 - Rode it at Mammoth last weekend
Arrow Racing Fs slalom frame - sold
Ironhorse Hollowpoint - Sold
Planet-X Dirtjumper - Still have but needs a fork
Ironhourse MK3 - Still have, use for "xc" (trail riding)
Ironhorse 7Pt7 - custom build with all the goodies. Can ride DH shuttles with it OR climb it if needed!!

I started racing Downhill in 2001, but kinda got out of it when I moved down here to OC. Still ride DH though. I go to Whistler every few years, Mammoth & Bootleg quite often, and Tahoe (N* and Downieville) whenever I get a chance.

Mostly ride Aliso/Laguna in the summer, Cleveland, luge, Santiago Oaks in the winter when it cools down.

How about a San Juan ride/shuttle then? Good for the OC'rs AND the Riverside crowd.

I am NOT going to climb it in this heat though.
If we get R-siders it will work out great. Meet at the bottom, we can take my truck up to the top, ride down, and then have a Riverside'r drop me off back at the truck on their way home.

This weekend will probably work for me if it does for other folks.

I find the best time to ride is fall and winter, so much cooler. The only down side is the bike parks like Mammoth and Snow Summit are closed. The upside is its time for Snowboarding, whoop!

Wow, Richard, nice collection... especially that DHi,

Na... no down side... Winter is best b/c you can ride here AND shuttle Bootleg. That place is GNAR. Last time I went I finally managed to clear that rock garden in the middle of Ginger!!

And making the page split, a recent shot of the whole family (wife, dog, and myself) riding "area 51" up in bigbear last month.

Your Aliso shot, were you coming down dog park?

Nope.. not in that shot. Ira's and Direct Dial (dog park trails) are Ok, but they aren't very flowey. Plus, Id rather ride my V-10 on those, but the shuttles arent' very easy on those trails.

That shot was taken on Chutes and ladders. Since this is a fish site I guess I can post the trail name since very few here would be interested. It drops down the front side past Meadow (coming from top of the world).

My favorite trails there are Telonics (of course), Corridor 2, Holy Mackarel, T&A, School yards, deliverence and redemption (when they were open) and inner smoothies. Oh yeah... T&A rocks for a legal trail.

I only ride Foes. They are bomb proof bikes made in California. The customer service is second to none as well. To better answer your question, you need to give a spending cap first.

Really? I'm not a big Foes fan. They make nice bikes, but the whole Curnnit shock thing turns me off. I have had my share of "proprietary" parts and have vowed never again. Too hard to replace when things go bad, more expensive to service, and you can't switch to something else if you need to.

For frames, this usually means the shock (like the pull shock on my old Straight-8), for wheels I like having a choice of rims (read CrankBro wheels), integrated shifter brake combos are a no-go IMO.

SRAM drivetrains, SPD pedals, Thompson posts, Salsa QR seatpost collars... ONLY choices if you ask me!!

Not tied to any one brake though. Right now I have some juicy 7's, old skool XT 4-pots, Magura Gustav's on the DH... oh, and a Hope C-2 (circa 1999) on my DJ'r.

can anyone here get good prices on Easton Monkeylite Handle bar? or anyother bike parts like XT's and XTR's if cheap.. :)

Man I am so glad I found some fellow riders. I have only ridden Kenter here in LA and thats nothing. I have a Commencal All Mountain 6" front and rear. I sold My Mountain Cycle 9.5 a few years ago after a real bad bike accident, broken wrist in 6 places and 5 days in the Hospital... :(

Down to ride, just not anything uber Gnarly, I still have My Dainese outfit and Full face though, so could always bring it out for fun times!

If we do San Juan you should make the trip down here. 8 miles of DH with about a billion flowing turns, whoopties and wall rides/berms. There is a little pedaly stuff at the top and/or a short hike a bike but after that it is all downhill. Nothing super tech, but nice and high speed the whole way.

It is going to take you about an hour and a half to get down there though. One of the guys I ride with knows of some stuff up in Simi too (his in laws live up there). I'll see if I can get some trail names.

Hey Richard. I am down like Charlie Brown for the 2 nd. Pls let me know the details. Stoked as I have never been there.

How was Mammoth?

I was up there on July 18th and 19th. They have some nice new stuff up there. That wodden (plastic) ladder/berm was cool, Techno-Rocks was nice, and I was able to hit that 10-15ft ladder drop (the one that has been there for a few years on flow or pipeline or whatrever) much better than last time I was up there.

The key to it is to try to go BIGGER. You need to land at least half way down for it to be real smooth.

So what about a local group ride? You guys still down for that?
