OT: Local Fishing....

Looks like you have a very nice setup to begin with. Replace the old fishing line. If you're targeting blues/stripers use a setup with 30lb test line. I'd suggest braided line because it'll be a smaller diameter so you can cast farther. With your smaller setups you'll be fine in on the bay side with cocktail blues and fluke. Good luck!

Thanks. :hmm5:

I just don't know what to use though and how to do it. Do I cast my line and leave it? Do I jiggle it? Do I cast and slowly reel in? I'm clueless. lol

It all depends on what you're using. If you're using clams, chuck it and grab your beer. If you're using the top water lures, "pop" it every second or two. If you're using your tins (the metal with the hair-like trailer) then slowly retrieve it. You asked a huge question and this is just the tip. This time of year might be tough for stripers, the spring and fall are the classic hot times. But fluke and blues should be around.

I'll be up in Lake George on a private pond and they dont' require a license to fish. They say the pond is stocked with largemouth bass every year. What do I need for that?

the most fun you'll have is with top water rubber frogs. They have a realistic looking body and thin hairy strings for legs. cast in the thickest weeks and stumps and twitch the frog and watch the explosions.

Spinnerbaits work extremely well. Use 1/4 oz. Don't go big. They have a v shape with 1 tip having a small spoon that spins and the other tip having a rubber skirt with the hook. Cast them near structure and retrieve it with a steady pace.

Those 2 methods will be a nice combo for some fun.

I have a boat if u wanna come with me one day sometimes I go by myself cause all my friends suck and don't like to fish ...i keep it at point lookout

Hey John, Where did you get that bad boy? I just went out on a party boat with my bro and dad and pulled up some sea bass and porgies while the rest of the boat caught a sunburn lol. Have yet to catch a bass.

are you referring to this John? my profile pic? I got him last year at moriches inlet on the east side jetty on a clam belly. to be honest he didn't fight as much as some other smaller ones i've caught. i had to drag him about a mile to the camp ground where you could park because the road was closed for piping plovers. not fun.

Dude I know the feeling when you have a boat but nobody wants to go as much as you... I have the 'A' guys who go all the time when I ask and then the 'B' guys who only come 50% of time since always busy and then I make a 'C' list for people like myself who would love to go with you that you just don't expect would go but you forget to ask more or talk about it so you keep them on the list...
Let me know when the Bass season starts that's my favorite time to fish...
Let's get me,Luke,Sal,John and you out one day!!! Set it up!!
