OT - pest control

Was hoping to control my cricket/scorpion problem and was looking for some references in the North Valley. Looking for pet/child/reef tank friendly service. Who do you use and roughly what do they cost? Thanks

I use Insectek and like them. Found them on yelp, where they have a $30 off coupon. It's $68 per visit every other month, after the first two months. They come once a month the first 2 months.

I just had a company come by my house asking for my business and from the list I saw half my neighborhood had signed up with them. Ill get their info when I get home.

Not sure on the scorpions since most poison doesnt work on them. Crickets you can get with just an Ortho Home Defense spray you can get at Home depot. Maybe traps for the scorpions/

I have heard to spread diatomaceous earth around and it"s harmless to pets, which kills the scorpions! Also Tengard from Bug and Weed Mart

Hope that helps!

Look up north valley pest control. Owners name is Bill. Great guy. He was my neighbor for a number of years. I moved out to NW peoria a few years ago and still have him spray once a month.

I use Cy-Kick CS bought on Amazon. Hardcore stuff. Had a pretty bad scorpion problem along with other common insects and bugs. After using this stuff they're gone. If you look into getting it, make sure you get the CS, it's the one for scorpions.

I spray mine own, I use Cyper WP and its very effective. When I do spray, I spray inside the house before the outside so you don't take a chance of driving the bugs into the house

If you get ride of the Scorpions food source ( crickets) you wont get them

It might seem a little crazy but if you have a desert or grass backyard and you are aloud to have chickens they'll eliminate a lot of bug in the yard. Just don't get a rooster so you don't have to hear a loud sound in the morning.

Here is the exact reason I have always been leery about using any sort of pest spray at the home perimeter. Funny I notice this on Sunday when this topic is active.

So here's my top off container; it's 12g and fairly tall. The lid is sealed all the way around; the only small opening is where the cord and tube pass through and I have tape covering that.

Notice anything at the bottom? Yeah, that's exactly what you think it is, no more than an inch big. How it got to the top of the container, let alone inside, is beyond me - your guess is as good as mine.

Cool Scorpionfish! I hear they're running wild all over the Florida reefs though! :) Orkin is very careful about household pets. I told them about the sensitivity of fish and they assured me that they are very careful! Good luck!

There are also 1-2 Organic non-toxic sprays they sell at home depot which are instantly pet/child safe. I just dont know how well they work as I have always used Bayer or Ortho home defense. just lock the doggy door while spraying outside till it dries, and then lock them upstairs when doing inside downstairs.

I agree about spraying inside before outside, as when I do just the outside all the bugs come inside to die within a few feet of the door, which means I have to pick them up anyway.

Scorpions can get in about anywhere you think they cant, they can flatten their bodies beyond what you would think is possible. and are immune to most poisons, have to have something scorpion specific.

This looks like a toy scorpion out of a vending machine. Next week he will post a fuzzy picture of a rubber rattlesnake in the refugium.
