OT, picked up a virus...

I am not sure if it is ad-ware, malware, spyware but in all of my efforts to get rid of it I did see something about a trojan on my system.

I have been through all of my anti-virus, ad-ware and malware removal utilities and still cannot get rid of it.

Does anyone have any suggetions other than nuking my system?

start your computer in safemode and run your anit-virus and spyware remover software.

Give the safe mode scan one shot, if it doesn't work, back up your emails and documents and nuke the system.
You will spend far more time hunting that bug rather than just squashing it via a reinstall. Plus you'll get the benefit of a nice fast running system on a clean install.

I did that several times. The first time it did pick up crap that it didn't running in regular mode but still did not fix the problem.

Did you go threw add/remove programs and remove any thing that doesn't look right or that you did not install.

Well even thou you may have gotten rid of the virus the damage could remain. I.E. if the virus deleted program files or changed settings getting rid of the virus would stop it from doing it again or more damage but it wont repair whats already broken. Best is what mhurley said back up your important files/email/software reg keys and reinstall.

Yep...that was my point. Once you get it, even if you delete it, there could be damage in its' wake. I've been bugged and cleaned then and still found applications that no longer worked (like IE).

Think of it like Hepatitis...once you get, you never really get rid of it.

i had a virus once, unplugged my internet. Turn computer off, turned computer on, ran norton anti-virus, fixed it up.

Try going off the internet and testing.

Reformat x3 then do a clean install..

you might want to run "msconfig" go to startup programs and uncheck everything, restart, then run your antivirus software.
