My bad. I totally did not catch that EACH person had 7 backpacks. So my new answer (and yes, I'm assuming the people, backpacks, cats, and kittens are all on the bus) is:

7 people x 2 legs = 14
343 cats (7 people x 7 backpacks x 7 cats in each) x 4 legs = 1372
2401 kittens (343 cats x 7 kittens) x 4 legs = 9604

Total legs = 10,990 legs

hyrumbradshaw, you neglected to add in the 343 cat legs - you only got the 2401 kitten legs. Between cats and kittens, you have 2744 felines on the bus.
