OT - RC Airplanes

You definitely weren't. :hmm5:

I got out there a little late because I was tuning on my FPV heli and having all kinds of troubles with the tail and that Copilot 2 kept turning off on me. I was adjusting on the tail and kept punching the throttle to test it. Apparently I went all the way to low throttle once while coming back down and that caused the ESC to go into soft start so I lost a bunch of headspeed. I managed to bring it down right side up but ended up breaking the skids off the landing gear and stripping a couple of servo gears. It is all easily repairable but I think I am going to sit it on the shelf for a while and try an FPV plane instead. When I get comfortable flying the plane FPV I will try the heli again.

Oh, btw, I am heading out there in a few minutes so hopefully I can make it there a little earlier today.

Did you try to fly the heli in idle up to see if the tail issue went away?

Depending on your throttle curves, the change in throttle settings could have been causing your tail issues. The stock esc is terrible, especially on governed mode.

Thanks Rick but I actually ordered a skywalker last night for my FPV plane. :spin3:

I got the RVOSD from Troy yesterday and we were talking about getting it to work with the GoPro camera. He said I had to remove the R7 resistor from the circuit board to get it to work. I looked it up on Range Videos forum and the guy who designed it was saying to remove the R7 resistor. I finally got up enough courage to do it and plugged everything in and smoke came out.:thumbdown After doing more research, I saw a picture of the resistor and it is the one on the upper circuit board instead of the lower one that I removed.

I tried all that kidphc. I have another 500 that doesn't have tail issues and I even tried the motor and esc from it to rule them out.

Oh crap! Did it fry your camera? Sorry to hear that, Mike!

Brandon

Nah, the camera is fine. I feel sick about the OSD though. Not cheap at all. Hopefully it can be repaired.

Oh, sorry! I misinterpreted that. I see what you're saying now. Maybe they'll be able to at least repair it.

On the bright side and worst case scenario, they offer a discount when you buy 5 or more! So how about 3 FPV planes and 2 FPV helicopters? :D ;)

That sucks with the OSD mike! can you see what smoked on the board? Maybe you can replace that component. Hopefullly you can get it fixed cheaply.

Apparently what I did sent the whole 12V through the system instead of the 5V that everything is supposed to run on. They said I probably fried 4-5 integrated circuits. I am seeing about getting it repaired.

Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear. I need to get with you to come up with a list of everything I need to purchase...

Dang, that is not good. Hopefully RV will help out. I know their techsupport and customer support sucks sometimes. Great products, sucky response time :(

Yeah, that is what I have heard. I hope I can get it repaired or something before winter. It took Troy 3 months to get the current sensor from them.

Ouch... that's not good. They seem to have a great product. I'm a bit disappointed to hear their CS sucks.

I'm also sorry to hear you sent 12v through the system, Mike! I hate to say it, but that likely destroyed the most expensive parts. :(

Brandon

The OSD is on it's way back to see if it can be repaired. Hopefully it won't be too much or take too long.

I slapped my camera and video TX on my mini ultra stick this morning and am heading out to the field with it. Might not be the ideal fpv platform but I figure I have the stuff so I'll try it.

Nice! I wish I could make it out today. Gonna hang with my wife today, but she work tomorrow! Hehe. So I'll be out at the field tomorrow if all goes well.

Let us know how it goes both with the MUS and the OSD, Mike. :)

Brandon

Brandon are you going tomorrow. If so what time. I got a new toy to try out :)

Mike, how did the FPV go with the mini stick?

I'm going tomorrow, Rick. Probably some time between 10 and 12, so most likely 11. :D Probably going to try to get out of here by 10 or 10:30.

That's not good on the reception, Mike. Maybe a tracking station would help that. ;) :D

Brandon

Nope, a tracking station wouldn't help. I was directly in front of the antenna at times. Actually there is nothing wrong with my setup. I flew it this morning at my house and it worked fine. I flew it as far as I dared with the 2.4 radio in it. I think it's just that stupid cell tower. :)
