OT: Video Games...

Alrighty, since I've been married I've had lots of difficulty helping my wife see why video games are important to me. To her, its a big waste of time. I have developed an addiction to many games over time.

The video games I've been involved in:

Diablo
Diablo II
Ultima Online
EverQuest
Baldors Gate
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale II
World of Warcraft
Half Life
Counter Strike
Day of Defeat

Currently:

EverQuest II

So the question is, what are you guys/gals into these days?

I'm loving Tiger Woods PGA golf at this moment... :D Spent a lot more time with the Wii than I thought I would...

I'm enjoying EQ II, definately a different play style then EQ I, more instantaneous rewards... don't have to sit and rest up for mana for 15 minutes for a 5 minute battle!

Try the 14 day trial, direct download it from sony, make a toon on Oasis and I might be able to help you out!

You should seriously be careful with all those MMORPG games. People get seriously addicted to them and have lost their jobs and families over them.

If I were you...I'd back away now, while you still have a wife.

agreed mel....but then again...that can be said to any type of hobby, even reefing

my only advice and to keep both around is simply get them to enjoy it as well.....my girlfriend and my family used to think that both of my hobbies were a waste of time and money...but after the tanked was stocked up with some color, and a litte jamming on rockband....their minds have changed and they do appreciate it now (but still unhappy when i drop the $$$ of them,, cause that'll never change)

All I do is make sure and keep it all in balance so that I make sure and give the time my wife deserves and more.

i'm old school...i dont play many new games besides guitar hero on ps2...but occasionally i like bond on 64 and starcraft on the computer

wow you played d2 tangboy, never would have guessed it. O im still rollin in D2 where you at??
I was hooked on WOW for a bit but it gets old fast. Im also addicted to EA Skate for the 360. woooot

I was a big time UO addict for quite a while. Then went to WoW. It was even more time consuming. I finally played Tribal Wars (free online) broke the habbit all together. Now ive picked up reefing. DOH !

Im just glad my wife is as addicted as me. We both enjoy watching the tank for hours. Its only a 29 cube but we have a full basement and Im itching to do a large scale project there. I just havent found enough information to get started yet.

Yea for sure. I would love to come to the meetings. Ive been posting on Reef Sancuary but the LFS guys over at Coral Reef in Knox told me about this site so im doing a transition over to this site. Ill be posting our 29 biocube soon. Its a young tank but doing very good with it. I have had a problem with the Nano Skimmer. It has crapped out on me and ive heard that its a pretty common problem. Trying to find a better alternative for the 29 bio cube now. Not much out there though. If anyone has any suggestions im all ears.

Wow... looks like a video game thread pulled in another reefer... imagine that!

Well Everquest II is starting to bore me a little, haven't played much of anything with school starting Monday and I have been at Teachers Convention and am getting the classroom ready, it just doesn't leave much room for gaming!

Your other hobby can be dangerous. Evercrack and similar games led to my cousin and her husband breaking up after being married about 8 years. He continually would come home from work and log on and play for hours on end -- and ignore her. He just couldn't limit his playing time.

I used to play a lot of adventure games and a couple of MMPORG games and I finally had to push back and quit cold turkey. Now such games don't tempt me that much. My last brush was when one of the guys I teach (11th guys Sunday School class) brought an X-Box to a gathering at my house, left early, and left the thing with me overnight. I picked it and played Halo 3 from about 7pm until 3 am without realizing I was 4 hours past bedtime. Sheesh. What a waste. I ordered him never to bring it to my house again. It was like handing an alcoholic a bottle of hard liquor.

That is 100% truth. I played at work and at home. I would play min 12 to 16 hours a day. I did manage to get my work done and in a market thats down manage to be up 100 thousand in sales but I dont play around, and have a pretty easy sell in the industry im in. A lot of it is selling myself more than my product and Ive never had a problem with being able to relate to people making it pretty easy to sell pretty much what ever I want. On the down side I was very much loosing touch with my wife of 4 years. Im actually glad while playing WoW the constant drama of being on Ventrillo caused me to see that it was a drag. What a big waste of my time and energy. I realized there was so much more I could be doing. Yea I may have a level 70 hunter and priest and can pawn your tail but having a living project that requires daily care and can be enjoyed by my wife as much as me is a far greater reward that I could ever have recieved.

Putting down the games has very muched changed my life. Im a better person to be around now and we have our first baby on the way. Figure that!:D

I feel compelled to chime in here as well. I originally picked up ffxi and moved to wow. I was just not able to limit my time. Man, I thought about those games all of the time. My wife worked nights at the hospital, so that allowed me to just dig in. It's amazing how consuming those games can be. But to second the notion, Im glad there was so much drama in the games. When I found out we were going to have a little baby, it caused me to put my time in perspective. I could be online playing, or I could be spending time with my family. Even though I do make time for myself, I find more important rewarding things to do. Wow or time with my wife and daughter.

It was an easy choice for me.
