Those were shot with a 30D so it's a very similar camera in terms of capability.
When I'm doing nature or landscape shots I use a tripod 100% of the time. It makes a huge difference in sharpness and it lets you use an exposure that's appropriate for the "story" that you're trying to tell vs. having to try and keep the shutter speed up high enough that you can't see the camera shake.
The first picture, for example, is 1/3 of a second at f/16. It would have been a completely different picture if I'd had to hand hold the camera and open up to f/4 or f/2.8 and/or crank the ISO. The last shot is a 20s exposure.
