Ouch! This is 'shocking'

Hey everyone,
Here is a fun one... My fresh RO/DI water builds up a static charge and i don't know why. Here are the confusing facts...

A. Location - Florida
B. When does this happen? Anytime of the day.

1. My water is 0 TDS, shouldn't that NOT be conductive?
2. No carpets in my house.
3. I don't get a static charge from anything else in the house...ever.
4. Zaps good enough to hear the "ZAP".
5. Not just myself, but I used my wife as a test dummy and it got her too.
6. Definitely static and not voltage leak because after a few zaps, its done.
7. Brand? BRS 6 stage, 1 membrane 2 DI units. (Great Product)
8. Container? Currently a 32gal plastic recycling crock. (i don't store water in this, it gets mixed with salt, heated then used for water change)
9. The tube sits against the crock and the rodi water does roll down the side into the water when filling. (maybe the cause somehow?)
10. Not a big deal....but its driving me crazy!!!!! :headwally:

I used to have this happen as well, scared the daylights outta me first time it happened. I used to have it sitting on a concrete floor and got a zap anytime I touched the water. There was no electrical devices in it so like you static charge. However since moving it to a linoleum floor it has not happened.

Not gonna lie that's pretty funny letting the wife share in on the fun.

The 1st time I touched it was when I was pouring some into my water makeup tank, it hit my thumb and scared the $%÷# out if me. The other times were to prove to myself I was getting zapped :hmm4:

That was kinda my thought as well. At one point I just had the hose tossed over the side of the drum and the water would roll down the side. I just kinda assumed it picked up a charge that way. Now I have a hole in the lid I put it through so it doesn't touch the sides anymore.

It was a few years ago now and cant remember exactly why but I used to dip a big measuring cup in to get water. Maybe for top off water or something like that. Now I use a piece of hose to syphon it out.

no circuit issue and the weirdest part of it all is that the water itself holds the charge. I have transferred the water to another container, and that water holds the charge until it is touched. I will make a video showing that too.

If its attached to concrete it can and will. Plastic becomes + charged. Ever rub a ballon on your head and sick it to the wall. To add most water lines are grounded - charged. Running the water through one, it can build till you touch it. Connecting the current.

SOLVED: It was the way the water was running down the side of the container. Once i changed that position it did not produce a charge any longer. SCIENCE!

Glad to hear you solved the problem, I know it gets old fast lol Now you'll just have to find a new way to torment the wifey.
