Our 375 Gallon project

Come on now- show us the good stuff :D Lets see what's in the attic (everyone has been giving me a hard time for not showing 'how it works' so I figured I could give you a hard time as well) :D! I'd be happy to post some pics and info in the DIY forum on mine if you want.

gobygoby- thanks for sharing and please do post pics. So are you using the other 2 channels for another actuator or something else? At least give us a hint :D.

Its difficult to explain. try and think about this. I built the frame of the stand. then I built a "skirt" that wraps around the frame....

.....the skirt is the front and both sides of the stands skin. they are all connected...I have a hoist on the inside of the stand that raises and lowers this skirt. The skirt raises up around the tank so I have 100% access into the stand(minus the center 2x10 and corner 4x4's).

I had the idea and luckily my father-in law is an engineering genius.

skirt on a hoist......coooooool. I was hoping to make my skins quick-disconnect style maybe with magnets. We definitely need pictures.

I will get up in the attic tonight and clean up the mess for pictures (once it is cooler up there) so everyone can see the guts.

Ok, not the best quality and the file size is a little bit large (3 Mb) so dialup beware. It's kind of hard to tell from the video, but the lights do go up about 6-8" and back about 5 inches while it lifts the front of the canopy. I'll try to post a video of the whole tank as well as soon as I can figure out how to make the file size smaller.

sorry it took so long to get the pic up. I got a virus and had to reformat my computer.

anyway, here is how I got my actuator wired up. let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks all- hopefully I will be able to get a better video soon- that one is kind of dark since it was taken at night with hardly any lights on except the tank lights.

matt & pam- Yup- one end of the actuator is connected to the back of the canopy and the other to the front edge which is hinged. I can try to get a pic of it for you if you like.

gobygoby- I see :). Not to hard to configure at all. That is very cool and I'll have to add it to 'the list' of cool thing to do to it. Got any video to go with it :) Thanks for the pic!

Still have some more work to do on the cabinetry and will hopefully get some more done over the long weekend.

The canopy video is great. You need to set the sound track to the theme from 2001 while that opens.

goby - I am really digging the orange remote fobs. But does it have a horn?

sorry, no horn but the remotes do have antennae that pull out....kinda wierd. :)

Scott/Erin,

That is looking SICK. I hope mine comes out half as nice. I'll be staining mine a similar shade to match the rest of our living room furniture.

I must come by and check it out.
