Our 40g Island waterfall

Going to post up some random pics I took , yesterday I went in and did some trimming and freed up some space for the smaller zoas from the palys managed to give everyone some comfort room but Ill need to do a round 2 here soon.i also moved some things around the sunny d's are now up top same with my armor of mauls they both were being shaded by the larger palys i trimmed some leathers and mushrooms

Still a bit more cleaning I'd like to do but not bad for summer lol

Here's a pic of our fogspawn fighting with the ricordia (or vice versa?) during feeding time....had to move the frog over a tad but not bad for a phone pic

Tube anemones are happy loving their corner always found these guys to be incredibly photogenic , I really dig the white and purple one but he's a but harder to get a pic of

My new favorite tank on RC. This is partially why I wanted our 100 to be an LPS dominated tank. SO GOOD.

Thanks alot it's been a rough ride but this design turned out quite well , I've mentioned here before but from all the tanks I've done in over a decade this is my favorite , after the crash we had a chance to change the system and decided short of a light style change the design was actually spot on:) me and my wife were talking about it and were looking to add some new fish soon right now the tank is very low bioload fishwise at just a pair of clowns and a small six line wrasse so some more smaller fish is in the works :)

Eventually we hope we can get totm :)

Cheers!

Figured I'd give some details on maintenance and the day to day routine we do for this system

We run a more simple method to reefkeeping with a 1yr old baby and full time work that brings me out of town half the year it needed to be consistent and simple:)

In the sump we run a 7" filter sock I'll admit it usually doesn't changed until its it's own ecosystem lol

We have a refugium after the sock that's filled with sand and rock then cheato on the top that grows quite well under a marineland led fixture

We skim on the dry side so I get about a 1/4 cup of skimmate every 1-2 weeks which isnt alot but its consistant and we only have 3 small fish but a very heavy coral bioload

Between the drain section and the filter sock we have matella filter pads and same between the refugium and skimmer is another pad this allow water to get through but no debris or animals (snails and crabs mostky) this stuff is amazing

Every 2 weeks before a wayer change we clean the waterfalls, basically a scrub with a toothbrush for 5mins and open the lines right up to clear them of loose debris , once a year or twice a year I'll clean out the lines using a long cable this gets off any coraline that grows in the water mines

We feed the fish usually pellets every day or do and a homemade frozen food mixture we just started using that everyone seems to love it's basically clams shrimp and crabs put in a blender with some mysis

This tank has zero clean up crew short of some snails that got smuggled in and have reproduced and some Chitons.....actually I have tons of these now lol seem to love our tank

For water changes we try to do 20g every two weeks and at that time I'll add a small amount of calcium chloride , mag sulfate and baking soda to raise the alk a bit ....currentky on AF seasalt for some time now and we like it

I'm constantly trimming corals it's a full time job making sure no one outgrow their neighbor this involves just snipping off heads or stalks with scissors and in more extreme cases taking the colony off and cutting it down to smaller sizes I had to do this recently and I'm sure more often in the future as stuff grows faster

In the 3yrs we've been running the jebao return pump has been running strong no issues with it at all , the jebao currently runs the display and feeds the waterfalls lines

We run atm no gfo or carbon or any external reactors and have quit vinegar dosing as nitrates eventually evened out close to zero ......we have done 1 water test i believe since the crash and use my eyes to see how the tanks doing for the most part

All in all it's a pretty simple tank with little maintenance:)

Any questions feel free to ask away guys:)

Cheers

Denny and Ruth

Ain't no bubble algae gonna stop this fella lol

Looks to be a piece of bonsai acro which is weird as it's like a foot away on the island this is in the back corner by the water lines for the waterfall lol

So our tank is pretty much at maximum capacity lol we want to add something new but are limited to small spaces we left open for zoas and acros so we decided to pull the frogspawn and have to a friend this opens up a large area in the front and next weekend I'm going to cut down pretty much every softie to a tiny size

Did some trading over the weekend and have some new zoas to add as well a nice RBTA we got yesterday from a friend:)

Will post pics soon , happy fathersday all :)

oh wow *** happeed to photobucket?

Are you going to reupload them? Imgur.com ?

Photobucket decided to hold ransom everyone's photos that are 3rd party linked and you can have them back at over $500 up front.....pretty crappy considering there was zero notice put out I've used photobucket for over 10 yrs now .........no loyalty to it's community what so ever

So 3yrs worth of journal pics down the drain I honestly don't have it in me to reload them so for now I'll just add updates and pics if I can find a host I like lol

This is a bad day for the internet world :(((

Never gonna get totm with no pics lol

$500???

I paid like $29 for a year and all my photos are fine. And I get a bunch more storage space. In fact I get way, way less ads now as well.

It's not the storage space it's the third party direct linking which all my pics are done as .....their fee is now 400USD per year up front starting on june 28th I think , so for me in can it's over 500 and they want it paid upfront for the year

Until it's paid all pics are replaced with an upgrade banner

Google it there's a thread here on RC as well many all over Google as this affects a huge number of forums that photobucket pics have linked on

No notice no anything

For those with pics still up it's a process that takes them time I still have my pics on another forum but from what I'm reading that won't last they're going through them all everywhere
