Our 450g reef, 360g predator tanks

Ho ho ho .... it's like Christmas .... I found Terry and the 450gal Thread. Nice to read all is on a good way with the 450 gal. Terry (thanks FFrankie).

Hi Heinz!

I just acclimated and added in three cleaner shrimp. Little guys. I have six in the 120 that will move down to the 450, probably on Sunday. I already warned my son that Sunday is fishing day.

I ALSO have a nice yellow tang, powder blue tang, and the achilles acclimating. That will probably finish off the stocking for the 450, except for LOTS and LOTS of corals that is. :D

Alot stuff

Alot stuff

So with all this livestock swimming, floating, acclimating, where's the pictures? lol

Hope all goes smoothly on Sunday for the swap. With all your pre-planning and attention to detail I'm sure it will go off without a hitch. I really do like your system of acclimating the two tanks so they have the same chemistry before hand. Excellent idea.

Hi Terry,

Achilles tangs belong to my favorites Terry, but a swarm Anthias (Tucka) looking always really good in a sps-coral dominated aquarium. Would you really like to keep only so few fish in the aquarium? Hey Terry, it is a 450 gal. tank, there is a lot of space…….

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Victor. Pictures later! :D

Heinz, believe it or not, but when everyone from the 120 gets moved into the 450, it's going to be full. The Achilles, in particular, is a VERY avid swimmer. He is constantly swimming back and forth, the entire length of the tank. Maybe he just needs to stretch his muscles after being cramped in smaller spaces.

The Anthias are really nice. They already follow us around when we walk by the tank. Always looking for food.

As for pics, I need to clean the glass again. The messing around with the fuge that I did has the water a little cloudy too. That will most likely clear up by tomorrow.

Well, the glass is still dirty but the water has cleared up. Here are some pics of our new babies. The tangs are all babies, except for Yellow.

Everyone seems to worked things out and is getting along now. All the tangs were actually eating together this evening. I have two other tangs in my 120 (a hippo and a purple) that will move into the 450. That has me a bit nervous because they are bigger tangs.

Tang police should have arrested me LONG ago for having a hippo and a purple in a 120g tank.

Everyone is getting along swimmingly in the 10 foot, 450g tank though. They had a few issues to work out but peace now reigns in our mini ocean. :D

Of course, that might all go out the window when the hippo and the purple hit the water.

Thanks Heinz!

Ratpack, I'll get one after I get everyone moved from the 120g. It will be a busy tank then. Not to mention, it will have some CORALS in it.

Bart, don't you have a bunch of tangs in your tank? I could have sworn that you have like 8 in your huge tank.

They are all eating together now. They must have worked things out. That all may change as they get older though. Well, I can always move the trouble maker over to the predator tank if it comes to that. The predator tank is going to be 96x24x36 and it's on order, being built now.

Well, my fuge tub has a small leak in it somewhere. It doesn't leak when it's only half full though. So I was able to move the bulkheads down. Problem solved.

The fuge now has about 50g in it instead of 90g. Everything is still covered with at least 4" of water. Most of it is under 8" of water. I'll have to keep an eye on my pod population though.

i have a good bit of tangs, sorry but what i was saying that powder brown, blue and achilles getting along together. in the beginning i had powder blue, brown and achilles enter the same time and just went crazy at each other. powder blue almost kill the brown and few days later went after achilles then soon after that a major ich outbreak. im not saying you don't have enough room.

I know Bart. :)

I was just asking how many you have in your tank. :)

They have calmed down though. Nobody is chasing anyone for now. That could change as they get older. Hopefully not, because they are all babies, and if they grow up together, maybe they'll learn to tolerate each other. :)

Everything is moved. It's a busy little tank now.

Everyone seems to be getting along though. I see one of the damsels show aggression occasionally, but even they are getting along good. I think the Purple and Hippo tangs are just too busy exploring for now.

All the corals have opened up too. Amazing! I didn't lose anything so far, not even a snail or a crab. :D

Pictures later. We'll make a video tomorrow of the activity too.

Looks good Terry!
You need to build a pendant box out of mahogany and retro those lights into it. then hang from the ceiling.

I think we're going to hang a black curtain to shield off from the ceiling down to 2" of the top of the tank. If that doesn't look good, then the next option would be a mahogany facad and suspend those panels from the ceiling. One of them will work.

NOW it's time to start working on the predator tank stand. That is supposed to be here June 16th... *gasp*

It's a 96x24x36 glass tank.
