Our 450g reef, 360g predator tanks

switched from RS and now following here. Glad to hear you eventually got your light. IMO when something happens like that there should be some money coming back to you from UPS for them not meeting the delivery method that you paid for.

 Isn't THAT the truth!

Well, we unpacked the light, hooked it up, plugged it in, and it WORKS!

Bad news though. The legs won't work so I have to hang the light. I've looked EVERYWHERE and I don't have eye hooks that will work. Tomorrow I'll have to head to Lowes to get eye hooks, cable, and clamps. Maybe even think of a way to raise and lower the light so I can get it out of the way when I need to get into that side of the tank to put corals in.

DANG IT!!!!

try looking at garage accessories and bike hangers. Last time I was at our Lowe's they had one that would work well for a lamp.

I have to give a thumbs down on those suspension hangers. I have them and they are really difficult to deal with. I have heard the same feedback from other reef keepers as well.

I had bought a bicycle hanging kit a while ago and we ended up taking it back because the feet on the 72" Solaris worked. We were laughing because, of course I said "Man, that bicycle hanging kit would have worked great!".

Oh well. We'll get it hung tomorrow evening.

yea, i believe i suggested the legs might have been an issue. you know i have to bother you buddy, i have to get back at for the many times you've gotten me

Like i said, Those hangers are junk! Don't even open the link. :)
Really though, if Johnathan says they suck then i believe it. Glad i never ordered hem!

I guess I should keep my mouth shut, but those things really bugged me. I really wanted to use them too.

Not at all, Jonathan! That's a big help to know that about them. I bought 50 feet of nylon coated steel cable, a bunch of eye hooks, and a bunch of cable clamps. I'm going to hook it up so I can easily lift up the light. I'm going to hook safety clamps onto the cable so the light can only go so low too.

After Patti gets home, we'll mount it and light up the rest of the tank. I'll get a couple of pics in a few hours.

what? your not going to do the hemisphere deal, morning and night, I was going to start calling you Greenwich lol, your tank reminds me of the I love lucy movie The Too Long Trailer, do you use the stitch feature for a FTS?

Well, that took a LOT more work then either of us figured it would. But here it is. :)

Please excuse the dirty glass.

Sas, we like to talk, so we have LONG threads....

I haven't setup the 48" Solaris yet so I'm sure the lights won't be in synch. But the hard part is done. It looks like the light on the left is in cloud mode and the intensity is dimmed a bit.

I don't know. But I can't imagine that they would be much different. I set the 72" one to simulate cloud cover so you can see it dim down occasionally for a few minutes. It will be interesting to see if they both get in synch once I set the time and the programming on the 48" one to match the 72" one.

I'll also have to keep a close eye on the internal temps of them tomorrow, when they're both running. I might need to install a fan on the wall behind them where they meet to blow the heat out from between them.

I said previously that it looked like the 72" one was in cloud cover mode but it was in sunset simulation mode. It entered moonlight mode about 15 minutes after I took that pic.

No. That would be a great idea though, wouldn't it. Not that there would be too many people that would have two of them, but I can easily see people who have wide tanks having two of them.
