Our tank's biology up close

I should be sleeping right now. I was supposed to just get a quick sample to adjust some settings to get some normal speed videos. I just stirred up some detritus in my sump and pulled some water up not expecting much.

A few specs of nothing. A quick look and adjustments to a few settings

What was the magnification for the videos? I was confused by the first one. I can't judge the size of the larger organism. Interesting!

In the last two videos the first one, #16 in the playlist, was a 20x objective and the last, #17, was with a 40x objective. Picture #64 was with a 10x objective.

It was a rather large ciliate with a very well defined mouth and body. I was hoping to maybe even see it split. First time I've seen one react the way it did by "balling" up. Caught it on video and pictures once but observed it several times.


If you're asking about the 1st video in the playlist that's with a 10x objective.
 
Alright, finally getting around to posting these pics and vids. This past weekend I took a quick swipe of my aquarium glass before I cleaned it off. As with all the others posted full resolution on flickr.
