Out of Africa (picture intensive)

Kirkaz - the French angel is 12 inches in length so almost full grown i think. The clown trigger is probably stunted i got him at about this present size and he never grew at all in all these years he is probably ancient he has always been in big tanks but never grew he is about 7-8 inches in length

Your living the dream we all have on good nights, a huge tank with insane amounts of beautiful fish living in harmony and thriving. I read through 90% of this it took me 1 and a half hour but it was so satisfying, we need more pics of your fish room what other stuff do you have in your system how much time do you spend a day on your tank, how long and how much water do you change. Your choice in fish bru, is second to none. Those tangs all of them are top knotch. Good luck bru look forward to the sick pics and video, oh man no pics from world cup???

ajholms0427 thank you!

wickedfish thank you for the kind words!about 2 hours a day is spent on the aquarium doing maintenance etc so about 14 hours a week , The world cup was amazing the spirit incredible but i didnt take any photos of it unfortunately

So here is a picture of my new flame angel ,he is tiny much smaller than the one that passed away after 16 years with me, i think it might be a small male but im not great at determining sex of pygmy's anyone know?

Ok time for a bit of an update

Good and bad news

The bad news first My beloved Clown trigger is not happy for the last 4 days he wont eat is looking constipated and i can see he is uncomfortable and in pain, the run up to this is that he didnt eat well so i put in a scallop, of which he took quite abit in , he doesnt seem to be able to digest food well anymore- i attribute this to age the fish is likely well over 20 years in age, i believe his organs inside might be degenerating as i have seen muscular wastage and fins bending due to age. In April he was in the same but not as bad state and recovered but this time it seems worse.. .i hope once again he may recover but i just dont know ;(

The good news about a month ago when i introduced my new flame angel, i also introduced in the soft corals section on the left of my aquarium, another small dwarf angel... i was taking a risk with this one as i know they are quite difficult but i was hopeful - It is a Centropyge aurantia - or Golden pygmy angel. When i first introduced the fish i barely saw it , it went straight for the caves and i only saw it's cute little face for about 5 minutes. This section of the aquarium has 3 other fish in it a pair of true Percula clowns and a Brown surgeon (acanthurus nigrofuscus) who is the boss of the section often fighting (hitting the shell of)with the large blue knuckle hermit in the section. The next day and for the last month the golden pygmy angel vanished and i presumed that the Brown surgeon might have bullied it and perhaps chased it into one of the large bubble anemones in that section-- why did i think this well because one of the anemones vanished into the rocks and proceeded to divide , i was thinking this may have been due to a recent dwarf angel meal!

Today i was working in that section of the aquarium and saw a flash of rusty brown and lo and behold there was a healthy but still very shy Golden pygmy angel. i doubt ill see him often but it makes it like one of those rare sightings on the reef and i am just so happy , the fish is still alive and kicking!

Here is a pic of him before he was added to my Quarantine, i doubt ill be able to photograph it in the main tank it is just too shy.

Tcmfish- thank you.. i hope to see more of it so shy though i may remove the brown surgeon from that area it might bring out the pygmy more if i do

ksed- thanks , no i still have the sander i modded it with an atb pump so it produces more foam but it still is 80s technology... and soon i am getting a friends cone Atb skimmer as he is upgrading his

A bit of story i have..... yesterday morning i went down to the aquarium to do my usual check on all the fish, only to find that i couldnt see my "gem" tang :eek1: being a large aquarium i didnt panic as it is hard to see some fish but he wasnt begging for food as usual in front of his section - this section is on the right side with many lps corals, clams and xenia in it and 4 other fish a yellow tang, convict tang, lawnmower blenny and mandarin.

I noticed that the trap door which separates the compartment from the rest of the aquarium was ever so slightly moved about 1 cm more than it should have been, i suspect the large collector urchin was the culprit for doing this ,they are actually pretty strong creatures when they wanna pull on rocks etc to see what they can decorate themselves with, and he is big about the size of a tennis ball.:bounce1:

I scanned the main section of the aquarium and my heart immediately sank there was the Gem exploring what i know is a "tough" neighborhood from his civilized uptown section.:uzi:
The gem is one of my smallest fish in the tank a real juvenile and here he was parading around in an area frequented by many Tangs who have never been socially acclimatised to him , and they all have mean teeth and double switch blades.:worried2:

At first he was confident holding his own against the Kole tang, then the yellows and the very large purple tang, the black tang also was showing tail wagging blades at his face.
For the next couple of hours he was dodging and diving through the rock structure being chased mainly by the yellow tangs and the purple tang.:worried:

His bravado now turned to fear and as i approached the glass he swam towards me at lightning speed almost as if he was asking me to rescue him, with the yellow tangs in hot pursuit, he attempted to enter the left side compartment but couldn't and that isn't a bad thing as a nasty brown surgeon is the boss in there. By now the fins were torn and bitten. I knew i couldnt do anything to help him as i cant catch a fish in a reef aquarium with 5000 litres like mine without absolute mayhem and destruction.:eek2:

Suddenly he vanished and i couldn't find him anywhere and i feared the worst until i looked in the old compartment he had inhabited since being introduced , i fortunately had not corrected the space made by the urchin and he was able to find his way back into his "part " of town, with the "civilized" yellow tang and convict tang as his buddies:love1:

His fins have healed super fast and i think he actually learnt about the "bad " side of town now so he may not be so adventurous next time he spy's a gap.

Stories like this, and the seperate fish in the same environment are what make this thread one of my favorites to check for updates. Absolutely love reading this thread and the manner in which you update it with pictures and stories, keep up the good work!
