Outer Orbit 48" 729W Questions

Hey everyone,

I am going to be receiving an outer orbit 48" 729w light soon and I just wanted to ask a few questions. Tank is 4x2x2. Light is 2x250W MH and 4x54w T-5.

1. Will I need a chiller for this amount of light? I was really hoping to not get one.

2. Can I have any type of coral I'd want? Will low light corals suffer?

3. I've been considering upgrading to a 30" tall tank and having a deeper sand bed. Could this light penetrate 26-27" ok?

bump. anyone?

I also had one other question - I have a coralife super skimmer 220 on my tank and I wanted to know if it would be enough when I add a 30-40g sump and possibly a refugium.

i dont think you will need a chiller i have 2x250w on my 36x18x18 and its not too hot 82 once in awhile

GuOD....i'm getting ready to order this same fixture for my 90gal. where did you find the best price? i believe premium aquatics has it for around $910 and a place called fishy business(columbus,oh)carried it for $924.

I ordered from ebay user id seacoral11

also known as seacorals.com

i had a great experience at first. i ordered the wrong light and they were very understanding, letting me upgrade etc (before it shipped) but then my light didn't ship on a Saturday like they said it would ... and basically about 9 days later I called, he insisted it shipped last Tuesday, he saw it with his own eyes, but then that day I get a tracking# for a package that shipped on that day. He was a very helpful guy and seemed very honest.. but he flat out lied to me about the shipping date. I don't know why he did this...

They do have the best prices I believe. I don't know about shipping to USA (if it's free or not).

Its very hard to say if you will need a chiller or not. Certainly upgrading to MH on a tank that doesn't have to run its heater often could make you have heat issues, but there are just so many other factors.
-Room temp
-Evap rate
-ventilation of canopy
-distance of lights from water
-photoperiod
-etc.

I could put 2x1000w fixtures over that tank and not need a chiller if I set it up right, but that would be a silly waste. I'd probably have ot have the bulbs several feet from the tank and evaporate about 8 gallons a day. You get the idea.

how warm is the room the tank is in?
i think 250 is minimum for your tank size 2feet wide is good for a tank
