Overflow Question

I'm looking at having a 40 Gallon Tank setup and I'm wondering how do I calculate for an overflow.

I know I want 10x coming back in so I would assume it would be the same to keep the levels, but how much will a 3/4" drain take to the sump as far as GPH?

Thanks

I have a 40g , my overflow is 1 1/4 inch w/ rio 2100 return pump, its pushing about 600gph

I have a proclear hang on overflow

Dont go with the 3/4". I have a 1" on my 37g. with a mag7 return and the drain cant keep up. I have it throttled back about halfway. I would suggest 1.25 to 1.5".

I was thinking dual 1" lines.. i know its not equal to a 2" line but figured it would be 1.5 or so.. I want to return one to the sump and one to the refugium.

I was thinking about this but figured somebody would correct me.

If im turning the water in the main tank 10x wouldn't I need something that can handle a 10x return?

You want 10X+ turnover in the display, not between the display and sump. Keep that low. Use powerheads or closed loops for display turnover,
