owenspackmans 180 Reef upgrade build.

I been meaning to ask you, where in Florida are you going?

It's the Keys for us, Islamorada. Stopping by Orlando on the way down and the way home to break up the drive.

Doing Discovery Cove to swim with the dolphins (did this about 7 years ago) and haven't made too many firm plans for the Keys portion. Just see where we go, want to get in some snorkeling though.

I live in central Florida, about 30 minute from disney stuff. Discovery cove is amazing. The Sea World park in general are pretty cool.

The key must do list:

Dive/Snorkel John Penny Camp
Feed the Tarpon at Robbie's fish camp
Sea Turtle Hospital
Key West night entertainment on the pier
~maybe a sunset cruse in Key Largo
If you fish either chatter a boat, or do the Marathon Lady

Shops for coral

Tampa:
Coral Corral
Fish and Other ichthy stuff

Orlando:
Wide World Coral

Dan Day for me tomorrow (now i know what that means!)

These 9 frags will be showing up from LAREEFS on ebay. Great prices on these, no a single person was bidding against me so i had free reign. Got all for $7.99 each.

LAReefs on eBay really has quality frags. They arrived today, wonderfully packaged in their own styrofoam cooler, inside a cardboard box. All in great condition.

Did a slow acclimation on these. They're all looking great. Here are some iPhone shots after 2 hours in the tank.

Nice shots of the a acros. What camera are you using again?

I have the cheapest Nikon out there, the D3000. I got it on sale last Fall. It's not the greatest, but its a good starter. I don't have a macro lens, instead, i have an attachment that lets me install my 200mm lens backwards, i just have to use the camera and focus in Manual mode to make it function.

I'm still learning but there were my best shots yet, just can't get good shots under the blues with their great night colors.

No new updates on the tank. All SPS frags added in the last two weeks are doing well, great polyp extension on al of them, much better than my previous attempts with SPS previously with my old 120 when I suffered RTN within the first 48 hours.

Heading to the Keys this and next week along with Orlando to Discovery Cove and some parks. Looking to pick up some nice items from LFS's on my travels home. Happy Reefing all!

Well, we have now returned from our vacation. Had an absolute blast in Orlando and the Keys. We were lucky enough to snorkel at Sombrero Reef (worlds 3rd largest) and also spend a lot of time snorkeling off the beaches in the Keys, we encountered a host of amazing creatures including Tangs, Stingrays and Barracuda's, oh and I'm now engaged!

I will update the post with a few dive photos as I took my SLR underwater with me, but most of them will go into a new thread, so keep your eyes peeled.

I made sure to visit World Wide Coral's before we departed today, great looking store and a huge variety. I was keeping my fingers crossed for a Copperband Butterfly as my LFS will not sell them and I wanted to inspect any specimen myself, in person before puchashing.

They must have had 5-7 to chose from, the first one I asked to watch feed ate frozen mysis immediately, a good sign. He travelled 6 1/2 hours back with me and had a 1 1/2 hour acclimation. He seemed quite content when I left him in the quarantine, so we will see how he has faired in the morning.

Here are a few (cell phone) photos of him along with the cleaner crew I picked up from a few of the Key beaches........early in the morning before anyone noticed........:hmm2:

:bounce3:
Congrats on the engagement!!

Also what camera and lens are you using, the photos look great

Corey

Hey Corey, i'm using a Nikon D3000, it's one of their cheapest SLR's. It's good for a beginner like myself. I use the 18-55mm lens sometimes, but the more recent macros were used using the larger 55-200mm lens attached backward and using manual focus.

Glad you're back and congrats on your engagement. I wish you and your significant other the best.

thank you very much!

Welcome back man , love the butterfly and its on my wish list

It's a beautiful fish and i'm happy to report she is doing well and eating Black worms like a pig!
