owenspackmans 180 Reef upgrade build.

I lost the Copperband during the night. Over the past week it was battling some type of bacterial infection, I started medicating on Saturday but it was no good. Cloudy eyes, bloody patches under scales, itching. I'm wondering if it was cyanide poisoning, if I do another Copperband then it will be an Australian one.

Sorry for your loss but if you call and talk to either Victor or Luis, they should be able to replace it if its been within the 14 days unless they changed their policy. I love to have a CBB but my dream fish is the Marginalis Butterflyfish.

Thanks for the suggestion, I checked with Luis and was informed no guarantee is available on livestock. I will keep my eyes out on Live Aquaria for an Australian.

Well more bad news with the tank. I had noticed a few white spots on the blue regals over the past week. I would spot one or two one day, gone the next. I knew what was coming.

Today i come home from work and both are just covered in Ich. It's frustrating, all the fish went through quarantine with Cupermine and PraziPro prior to going into the display tank. I realized through some reading that my API Copper kit is completely useless when you are using Cupermine......so I really have no idea what my Copper levels were when I treating these fish.

I now have a Sailfert Copper kit and will be catching all fish tomorrow and treating them with Cupermine. The tank will be fallow for 12 weeks......sucks......but i do NOT want to be dealing with Ich for the life of the tank.

I may sell the tangs once they have finished their treatment.

Man that's a bummer Owen. I wouldn't sell them. Just be patient and wait the three months. Things will get better. Keep ya head up.

This weekend I decided to tint the windows in the room where the tank is located. This room gets a lot of light and even with blinds shut it affects the look of the tank during the day.

Photographing the tank also leads to lots of reflections and blinds inside my tank. Home Depot sell window tint, blocks 99% UV and 59% of heat. It's really easy to apply, doesn't stick to itself and very user friendly. Hardest part was using a razor to trim it down to size once applied, I managed to get a good technique going by the end.

From the outside the windows look completely black and you cannot see inside the house unless right up against the window, from the inside it much darker and cooler, it can really fool you with what the time of the day is!

Here are some photos!

Very nice. I should have done that years ago when it was still up stairs.

That is one reason I made a dedicated fish room in the basement. 100% light control 24/7.

Someone in my thread asked me if I was going to do the same thing. Rather they suggested the idea to me. So it looks like I will be heading to the HD soon. Cool idea.

just read your whole thread. your stand is amazing might be stealing the idea of putting tile on the top. sorry to hear about the tangs having ich and having to go fallow been there and it sucks. i think you have everyone subscribe to your thread going to HD to buy tint. lol
