Welcome guys.

Finally finished the plumbing in the basement. Got waste water going down and new water going up. No more buckets!

Flame Hawk
Starry Eyed Blenny
Mandarin
Exquisite firefish
Blue/Green chromis (accidentally added. Hiding in the rock that I transferred from my 180 and cant catch him)

What a thread, I didn't know this forum existed until earlier today. I've been reading and posting a bit on nano reef, but this is definitely the mother load of information. Only six pages in but I have to throw this out there:

I'm still in the planning stages before I get something started later this fall / winter, but I've seen both the 30L and the mini 40 in person (but empty) and was leaning more to the 30L for the longer, wide aquascape potential. Was anyone else in the same prediciment before buying their 40? Do you regret going with a cube tank vs long and shallow?

I hate this, now seeing some of these established tanks I'm feeling like it's back to a 50/50 split on which way to go..

I would go with the new lagoon series from IM if I were you. I have enjoyed my 40 and like the set up I have. IMO the 30L is just too small and limits what type of fish you can put in the tank. Boils down to what you want to do with the tank.. focus more on fish or coral. I feel lagoon 50 does the best of both worlds.

I picked up the 40 because it fit in the spot I could put it in. [emoji3]
When I came home with my wife said you should have gotten the sr120. [emoji3] Will get one in a couple of years. Have a love seat to get rid of now. [emoji106]

What options do you guys suggest for ATO for the 40? I know most everyone suggest the Tunze, is there a cheaper option that still works good? Thanks.

Thanks for the perspective. Obviously in a smaller tank it's less of a fish focus, I was going to go with the standard clown pair, pistol/goby and whatever else for a third eventually. I had thought the 50 was as shallow as the 25, but that's not the case, you've probably just put me onto the solution.

For the others, thanks for the replies and pm's so far.

So I originally thought I would get a current usa orbit... then I decided on a kessil a160we... now I see the hydra 26/hydra26HD...

So now I'm torn between the kessil w/spectral controller and the hydra. If I get the hydra, I'll be waiting for the HD so I can have integrated wireless/cloud-based control, but all the recent 'myai' app reviews say that the bugs/glitches in the app render the lights very expensive paperweights.

I plan to have frogspawn at the bottom (I have a 3-4" sandbed so 10-15" below surface); montis in the middle (6-10" below surface); and mille or valida and efflo up top (2-6" below surface). All of that being the case, I will pose several direct questions -

1. Can some of the people who have used both the kessil and the hydra give me their opinions on the differences - perhaps directly pertinent to the types of corals I intend to grow?

2. What's the deal with the 'myai' app issues? An unstable app that renders the light useless is a huge red flag. I don't want my corals to go unlit because of a software issue...

Hydra is a lot more powerful of a unit. I had my 160w max on my 40 fusion, its taking a while to get my 26 hydra up to 100 percent on all blues.

I gather that is to be taken as a resounding recommendation of the AI over the Kessil.

Have you noticed better growth (assuming other parameters have remained the same)?

What about the issues with the app? Do you run the AI controller unit , use the app, or use a third party control mechanism? Either way - what are your feelings on the functionality of said control mechanism vs. whatever you were using to control the kessil (assuming you were, and I would like to know specifically what you used to control it)?
