First tank? Wow got a nice equipment list and stocking list!
Thanks! It took some time (since January) to build up to this. It's funny..originally this tank was a Christmas present to my daughter but she decided that it was a bit more work than she wanted. I took over and now I'm hooked. Wish I purchased a bigger tank!!

Help with bubbles ... getting a bit fed up!

Help with bubbles ... getting a bit fed up!

I could use some help with the bubbles! I just did my weekly maintenance and readjusted the return nozzles and the bubbles are worse than ever. I'm not a plumber, not good at any time of Do-it-yourself ... suggestions? Any volunteers in New England that might be able to help me in exchange for lunch, a beer and maybe a couple of frags !! :fun5::mad:

I'm currently buying my RO/DI water from LFS. I mix my saltwater using Tropic Maron Pro-Reef Salt. I"ve been tossing around buying my own RO/DI System but it's pretty intimidating and a bit confusing. Was wondering if any of you that have one may be able to share your experience setting up a system and is it worth it for our size tank. Also, any recommendations on a good system?
Thanks!

Welcome! Sounds as though you have a great setup.

I definitely would recommend investing in a RODI filter. With weekly water changes and perpetual ATO container refills, you could really save some time, energy, and probably some money, too. Don't let the installation intimidate you at all. They're really not bad at all. I have a Typhoon III from Air, Water, and Ice that was a breeze to install. One connection to the cold water line, one connection to the drain, and cut enough tubing to make it easy to fill my buckets. The guys at Air, Water, and Ice provided great documentation and I've heard their support is great, too, if you do run into any problems. You could certainly post any questions or concerns you might have here, too, and we'd be glad to give it our best shot.

Quick up date on my couple month old... dang, need to clean my glass!

My bubbles go away when the chamber where the return pump chamber is full, I keep my water level about 1 inch from the top. Give this a try.

I finally went with the AutoAqua ATO system to save from having to top off daily manually, had to cut out a small circle so the light sensor can see thru the blacked out glass, but it works.

Im tossed between doin a reactor with GFO or a refugium cause i really like the mandrin dragonnet... I received this tank as a present for my birthday and really wanted to do a high end hard coral tank now im leaning towards soft corals and micro fish.....

Thoughts?

I would use algae scrubber instead of a GFO reactor. I used a drop 1.2 from Santa Monica filtration.

Works great. I have not had to clean my glass since it kicked in.
Pods come with time. I have dosed with Algagen pods and they are growing good in the tank.

Reefwiser,

Can you give me some more info about that scrubber? I am running some chaeto with a refuge light and like to take that out and run the new filter sock... Where do you have it? Do you have a noticeable drop in PO4 and the rest of the tank.. etc. Do you have to get an air pump also?

Thanks

Yes I have it in the second chamber its uses an air pump. I bought the one they sell on the site. it is more than enough for the unit I have mine turned all the way down.:)
PO4 drop to .002 after the scrubber was in the tank 3 weeks. It was like boom no algae quite nice really. Need to open the unit up and take a picture.:) I have been working a lot of hours right now. So I haven't taken a picture since the first one. MY bad.:)
Every IM 40 should be issued with a 1.2 drop scrubber in my book.:)

These Scrubber units need to be submerged of can hang?
Might you have a link to the site on specs and cost for one?
Thanks.

So you are saying I should get one? :)
