Tunze 9004 Question

Tunze 9004 Question

I went ahead and purchased a Tunze instead of the Ghost Skimmer for my 40, but I am not sure how happy I am with the fit. Looking directly at the tank it is sideways in the #1 compartment. It is pretty much wedged in, so my question is how far down do you guys have it pushed down. The water line on the container is pretty much out the window as the water is just barely squeezing in over the lip. Right now my top is sticking out maybe a hair over 1/4 over the top of the tank, bubbles at the very bottom of the neck. Thanks in advance, Chris

Quick question.

My Fusion 40 has the Tunze in chamber 1. I just ordered a CPR aquafuge Medium and am planning to put the intake into chamber 2. This positions the return at chamber 5. Currently I have an in tank media basket in chamber 5 with filter floss on top. Will pods be able to survive in this configuration or will they just get stuck in the filter floss?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Eric

Hey Chris

My tunes fits well. I have the ATO maintaining the water in the 3rd (middle) chamber just enough so that there is no spill over from chamber 1 to 2 or 5 to 4 if that makes sense. Then I push the tunze down so the water intake level is midway if the opening on the tunze. Seems to work really well this way.

Hey all!Been a while since I posted here but just wanted to give an update

Its about 2 years and the tank is still going strong!

At this point I'm very familiar with the tank and will try to check the forum more often to answer questions

IM nuvo fusion 40
IM filter socks
Aquamaxx HOB1
full apex controller
IM ATO
Reef Radiance wifi controllable LED light
JECOD DCT 3000 return pump
JEBAO RW 4
JEBAO PP 8
BRS 5 stage RODI
RED SEA NOPOX
ESV binic 2 part/magnesium
I keep a mixed reef with RBTA's, LPS

Hey Thunder, I see you have a fan on the tank. Do you run it often? I'm setting up a tank with pretty much the same equipment and wondering if heat will be an issue.
I have it on timer runs from 12nn-6pm. Got my temp almost steady at 25-26c might hook a temp controller.

I almost went for tunze as an upgrade but i had the same thoughts. Ended up with aquamaxx hob1. And damn i never knew how smelly a skimmate can be. Used to run im ghost. I never settle with anything im not happy with hehe

Kessil 160

Hi All, I have had the 40 for a week now, I have been reading the forum from the beginning and am on page 30 and loving all the info! Does anyone have experience with the kessil a160 on this tank? I have the spectral controller and am wondering about a good schedule.

Assuming the 160 puts out half the intensity of the 360, you may want to crank it up. My schedule for the 360 is 9-9pm ramping 00-35c40intensity at 2hrs peak. Also, iv read before with the 160 you play with the settings at around 80%

Thanks! I will try something similar, im still trying to decide on a skimmer, really either the tunze9004 or ghost, really want the tunze but dont want to give up the overflow sections as I have been running filter socks on both.

Hadn't get the chance to try thnze but don't go for ghost. It was my first skimmer and definitely not happy with it. Too noisy plus the micro bubbles from time to time. I would suggest the aquamaxx

Yea ive heard not so good things about the ghost, maybe Ill just have to go with the tunze, I know the aquamaxx is probably the best but really didnt want a HOB, I wanted it more hidden. Has anyone made a caddy for chambers 2 or 4? would that work?

Chris - use the small lip on the outside of the chamber. Slide the Tunze past the lip and the slide it back up until it hits against it. the skimmer should be about an 1" or so above the top of the tank (or maybe just under and inch).

Here's 4days worth of thick skimmate from aquammax hob it can also skim really dry if you choose to. which both the tunze and ghost can't achieve. To help you decide. I'v had the ghost for 6mos and i never get the kind of skimmate i get from the aquammax. 😂 plus it doesnt look bad at all in the nuvo40. With smaller skimmer you can only skim wet since before the dry bubbles reach the top, the neck would have been so dirty already. You can never skim well with such a small neck diameter.

This is my ghost skimmers skimmate...

This thing can produce both wet and dry, and no micro bubbles.
To get it to produce this was difficult...a lot of adjustments...but I got it right.

I like the look of both, have to make a decision soon! Anyone have noise issues with their return pump? Mine has been making a rattling noise, took it out and did a full clean, it wasn't very dirty at all, but still making the noise... Anyone that has upgraded what pump are you running?

Love this thread, been following & reading it the last 3 weeks. trying to get as much info as I can get to make my build as smooth as possible! Breaking down my 66g and downgrading down to one of these lovely IM fusion 40s, hoping to get it going march!! I'll keep reading and learning until then

Check your rubbers on the return pump. Also check your heater, sometimes it may touch the pump and rattle

I replaced mine with the Sicce Syncra Silent 2. Much quitter almost completely silent pump, flow seems to be the same. I kept the IM pump as a backup.

Weird thing with IM return pump, I found I could restart it and sometimes it would rattle less and maintain this operation. It was almost like it started out of sync or unbalanced sometimes.
