Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Exactly my predicament. The 9004 fits sideways in the media basket chamber and since it will be mounted sideways and not facing the overflow im convinced that it will not be efficient in skimming. Thats why i bought the aquamaxx hob1 instead (on sale right now btw). And for the return pump i upgraded mine with the eheim compaq +2000 very quiet.

It doesn't make any difference how a skimmer gets its water. Just as long as it has the contact with bubbles a skimmer will skim.

Yeah but i mean the intake on the 9004 isnt facing the overflow and since i upgraded my return pump i was thinking that most of the crap will bypass it. It was just my thought on this. So i picked up the aquamaxx. Most seems to be successful with the 9004 tho.

so...those who have the 9004...the 9004 fits without modification? Not going with an HOB...

Also, I think the way skimmers work you dont need to have it faced a certain way or anything....in is in. Am I missing something here? No disrespect at all, but is that faulty thinking..."crap will bypass"?

As for the Sicce, I'm reading it requires aftermarket parts and it is not plug-and-play simple to replace....aka a no-go for me.

is the Eheim 2000+ easier to install and get going in the Nuvo 40 as a replacement?

I am running the 9004 and the Sicce. The 9004 fits in either of the outside chambers with the input facing the center overflow.

Sicce just has an adapter http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=23786495&postcount=1736

I'm happy with both decisions.

if i were to get one of the innovative marine media baskets and magnet fuge light and put filter floss on top, chaeto in middle and bio balls on bottom then seed it with pods do you think the pods could make it into my display through the return pump alive...?

whats the best pods to buy that will reproduce?
I've read somewhere that the tigger pods are hit and miss when it comes to reproducing?

Well, like i said it was just my thought about the 9004 since the intake is situated on a tight space and a high flow area of couse it will skim but for me again just me it wont be efficient.
Im not aware by sicce not being plug and play by that what do you mean? Do i need to replace someyhing or upgrade?

9004 is not capable of skimming dry. +1 reason why i chose aquamaxx.

The 9004 works great. It is a capable skimmer and fits perfectly in one of the outside chambers just under the lip that is there for the media basket. The overflow water flows directly into the skimmer and the skimmer produces a nice thick solution.

No modification needed. The skimmer fits in the chamber with the magnets facing towards the side walls. The water will enter the chamber exactly as the skimmer is designed. And I believe that one reason the skimmer works so well is that the water goes directly from the surface of the display into the skimmer.

On the pump, I bought the eheim and it produced slightly less flow than the stock but was quieter. I ended up trading it for the sicce which did require a part that I think I picked up at home depot. The biggest issue with the Sicce is that it only fits into the back chamber with a great deal of fuss.

I guess i was wrong about the 9004. It was my 1st option and i kept asking about it but no one seems to reply to me queries to i opted out for the aquamaxx. Anyway both skimmer are good.

Sorry I missed your questions in the past. I have responded a few times over the past year to similar questions. This thread was a great help to me when I first started - I had been away from the hobby almost 20 years and getting advice on equipment from a few of the reefers on this thread was invaluable.

What do you guys think about my aquascape? Does it look somewhat unnatural? Im planning to rescape it by next next march. 😓

Does anyone run a powerhead in compartment where the return pump is (at the bottom)? I have built up detritus down there there and i got to suction it up every once in awhile.

I'm new to this forum and am starting a fusion 40 with the intention of it being a macro garden for dragonets, pipefish, and seahorses. So far I have the tank with stock return pump and a tunze nano ato. I'm excited.

Sounds amazing. Will you run some sort of refugium for pods?

I actually flipped my 9004 the other way, so the magnet is between chambers 3/4. I realized when the magnet was facing outside the tank, it wouldn't hold well. It skims great, It's not super thick but after it breaks in from the super wet skims, i get dark lightly thick skims every 3 days
