Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Hi All, I have had the 40 for a week now, I have been reading the forum from the beginning and am on page 30 and loving all the info! Does anyone have experience with the kessil a160 on this tank? I have the spectral controller and am wondering about a good schedule.

I went from a 29 biocube to the nuvo40 and kept the 160 kessil. Had great growth still I have sps and lps. Both grew great. I ended up adding a second 160. The single 160 will grow coral fine but adding the second was the best thing I ever did. Here is a pic of both on my tank. I also using an aquamaxx Hob 1 with great results

What Reactor do you like ?

What Reactor do you like ?

I am setting up a new Innovation 40 reef....

I am cycling the tank now with 24 lbs of FiJi rock....

I bought the Mini Max reactor, but wondering if there are others out there that you Innovation 40'ers like better, or works better... Seems to be quite a few post around the net whining about the pump on the Mini Max...

What think thou....

How does everyone keep detritus out of the sump area, for those who don't like using filter socks? Which seems like its mostly evert one. I thought it would of been better to run socks on both sides with some chemi & carbon bags inside them

I've had live rock, Cheato and a couple media sponges Carbon/phos. Whenever I did my water changes I sucked the water out of the chambers to clean out the detritus. Other than that, my tank was pretty clean

I am almost three weeks into my new Fusion 40 tank, and it's the first saltwater tank I have ever had, so I am def a newbie. So far, the filter socks seem to be doing just fine for me, can I ask why most people ditch them?

I ditched mine first week and made my own media racks in both back chambers to include floss, chemi pure and purigen

Hmmm, says the width from front to back is 3.5"

The ice cap i believe is 18 inches tall? And the water lever should be around 8 inches? Which makes mounting tricky unless you make a stand and 10inches of the skimmer showing.

Anybody have a link to a plastic jug that will fit in on one side of the IM 40 stand, and hold at least 5 gallons of water ???

I am out of town and would like to order one from Amazon... anybody know the inside dimension of one side (I forgot to measure before I left town).

I used a 5.5 gallon tank and it fits perfectly

On the ghost skimmer there is a small clear plastic piece on the pump that you hook the black tubbing to, mine just broke off the pump. Any ideas how to fix it or if I replace the pump does that piece come already attached? Im guessing I'm gonna just have to but a new skimmer??

Anyone have tips for how to clean the return section of the sump? I'm struggling with nitrates over 75 after weeks of water changes, sand removal, and new live rock$ :angryfire:. hopefully I have now found the root cause. I checked the return section underneath the 4 chambers and found huge amounts of gunk! i sucked out as much as I could with a turkey baster. after I thought I was done I replaced the return pump and turned everything on.I was surprised to see a huge cloud of green water being put into the display side.

I put some filter socks on the overflow section so hopefully the bad stuff will be left in the sock as the water turns over for a couple of hours. Hopefully this will solve my high nitrates issue.

Should I put some snails or something down there to help in the future?

I think I need a reactor. Is there concensus on the "best" one to run GFO that will fit in one of the inner chambers?

Thanks

I don't know the best but the innovative marine brand stuff seems to fit perfectly with the system.the only thing I did not stick with IM for with my tank is the ATO

I usually siphon out the return section with my siphon hose every other week during water changes, one week I focus on display/sandbed, then the next week I focus on the sump. just take off the end of the vacuum/siphon or you could use any small tubing
