Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Question which of these pump are best for IM 40? MP10 or Grye XF230? want to hear reason why one is better than the other so I can make my decision

Bad news...dump it. And yes its an aiptasia. Better safe than sorry. Chaeto is cheap.

Good chance this came in on your rock. I have had a few in my tank that I can definitely say came from one piece of small live rock that I added to seed my system. They tent to spread (I had on show up on a spin stream). I have been able to control them fairly easily using Kalk paste injected via syringe.

THAT SUCKS!!!

Mine came in on chaeto. I threw it all out after inspecting it. There was a LOT of them in there.

Yeah...careful where you get chaeto. It can harbor pests and they will be unnoticeable until you get it home and in the tank. If you know someone with it near you, another reefer preferably, get it from them.

Lesson learned. That's for sure. First time setting up a fuge and chaeto.

No microbubbles for me either with the ghost skimmer. My only real complaint is I have the cup up about as far as I dare to set it and it still skims pretty wet. I don't know if I just have the water level too high in the back chambers or what. I'm having to dump some light tea colored water every couple days so far.

The neck does get somewhat gunky in that time though.
That was the only way I managed to get rid of the micro bubbles as well, about a 1/2 inch away lol. I have the same issue though, wet skim.

Pnorris11; Looks great, are you using MP10's? Getting enough flow? How do you like Minimax reactor?

No issues with the lemon peel?

You guys should check out the tunze with the D.C. Pump. U can control skim precisely. Mine skins nice and dry. Thick nasty gunk every week. No mico bubbles

Thank AZ - those are MP10s. I think with two it's enough, for the high flow corals. The minimax is great, I use it with zeovit stones instead of GFO or biopellets though.

The lemon peel was my wife's favorite fish. He will peck at a zoanthid occasionally which I don't really mind but I can't do Acans or Fleshy LPS. Right now, he doesn't bother SPS-Acros. If it gets worse I'll probably trade him in.

I would second this - this skimmer outperforms my Ghost by leaps and bounds. I know a lot of people don't like that it must go in the first chamber but I've found I can do all I need in the one custom caddy.

Saying goodbye for now

Saying goodbye for now

All,

I'm going to be leaving my IM 40 behind over the next few weeks. I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of a new custom Reef Savvy 96 gallon tank that I ordered over a year ago. I'll be starting a build thread in the next few days but I wanted to leave you guys with a nice parting shot or two. There are a few more on my IM 40 build thread here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2512216

Enjoy...

Choss, Nice looking tank just saw your IM 40 build. Can't wait to watch your 96 build, everything moving with you.

AZ thanks for the compliment. I have neglected the 40 some over the last year - simply didn't add much to it and didn't try to grow any new SPS as I was having some difficulty with the lighting. I probably should have added a second Kessil to deal with the shadowing. The IM 40 will either be sold or stay on in my basement as a clownfish & anemone tank so maybe saying so long to the IM40 thread was premature but we'll see. I plan on transferring the corals to the new tank. I'm debating on the rock as I have had a few aiptasia anemones show up recently. I have dealt with them using Kalk paste but the new tank will have a very careful QT process for new corals as well so I'm still on the fence regarding the rock.

Still waiting on the new tank which is hopefully just about to be shipped.

One more shot - a few months ago I added a small mangrove to the center chamber

Choss; Clowns and Anemone would be fun since it apears you have the room. Or it would work as a nice QT as well. Thats why I'm going with AI, hopefully avoid shadowing, Really do like the shimmer from Kessils, also wish kessil would update their controllability too.
