Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Btw, sparkytuna, my earlier comments were not directed at you at all.

It just came out of me in the reply to your post. Sorry if it seemed that way.

I blame it on the near foot of snow I had to clear this morning.

Spring..yea right...

All good Reduck, i totally understand. Thank you and everyone else for helping me out with this new grand adventure. New readers should listen to your advise and research it your self like i did. Thanks again, i am so happy i found this site :)

Cool. Thanks. I really felt bad about it. keep up the good work. At times it will seem like a losing battle but in the end, it's all worth it.

Got lucky yesterday and scored a PM2 for the Apex from the classifieds.. Just ordered the conductivity probe this morning.
I read some horror stories about calibration but I got to try it for myself.
Hopefully it's not one of those bad learning experiences....I have one of the Milwaukee salinty meters that I use for testing, but I think it will be cool to have a real time reading.

Think how cool it would be if there was a single system that kept real time tank test data. I've seen some for ponds, and fw tanks, but not a lot of user information out there on how accurate and reliable. Instead of having a drawer full of test kits, one single probe (or more) and display.
Seneye makes one but it's only a few parameters..not enough..
I'd buy that in a heartbeat...

I should go back to bed now...
Happy Sunday!

Look what I picked up on Craigslist yesterday!

Trying to decide on Aqua gadget vs in tank media basket. I've had intank baskets in the past and have always been impressed but Aqua gadget is cheaper by 20 some bucks. Any opinions comments?

I have (had) both. The intank stuff is always built like an, excuse the pun, tank. The IM is what it is. It does the job well. I guess it depends what you are putting in it. I had mine filled with broken live rock. It did what it's supposed to do. Sat there and flowed. The IM also has a deeper floss pocket. You could stuff two sheets in it if you wanted.

I still have an IM basket for sale in the classifieds....the intank is gone.
I also realized I overpriced the IM so I just lowered the price...

Cool thanks for the input I'll probably go with intank just because I know I will be happy with it even for an extra 20 bucks

Good call, I have not been to impressed with my aqua customcaddy..so money well spent for the intank.

I may have to add those to my list of things to buy this year

Picked up a used HOB-1 from a guy on manhattareefs for $90! This thing is a beast. Next purchase will be an RODI system. Any recommendations?

I run a stage 4 from BRS with a water saver. Whatever one you get, be sure to get a tds meter.. Good way to see if the water coming is at 0 and when it's time to change your filters

I have an awi 75gpd I've had for almost 2 years haven't changed the filter yet and still 0 ppm tds I'd recommend it but the BRS ones I've always heard good reveiws

Didn't think of that thanks for the tip!

They opened up a new LFS here in Brooklyn I went today to check it out and they have an AMAZING selection of corals and fish.

Skimmer: Ghost, if I did it again, I would run the aquamaxx hob-1
Power Head: (2) Ecotech MP10s..you can get these used or over at tb aquatics for $199.99

Thanks so much to you and Reduck for the excellent information and advice. In the process of building out my Fusion 40 and this thread is a complete goldmine.

Particularly good to hear on the skimmer. I have been reading all that I can and waffling between the Ghost and the Tunze, but nobody seems to be really raving about either of them. I'll take your advice and go for the Aquamaxx.

What do you guys think about the WAV powerheads coming out? I'm not in a huge hurry to buy, so that's not a concern. Going to have to get a second and third job to get the Apex, light, ATO, skimmer, etc. :) I'm not at all opposed to going with the MP10's, but watched a great intro video on the WAVs that really has me interested in the bidirectional communication and diagnostics that will be available to Apex. Overkill or worth the wait?

Thanks again for all the advice. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I proceed, but I agree - I'd rather buy the right equipment the first time than buy something I'm not totally satisfied with to try and squeeze some pennies.

I got the aquamaxx this weekend. I'm pretty new to the hobby and it's my first skimmer but it was easy to set up and produces foam right away. I got mine used from a member on manhattanreefs who was tearing his tank down for $90 so I jumped on it

That's an awesome deal! Glad to hear that it was a good choice. I'm going to start looking for one of those, as well as a used Apex.

I'm getting back into the hobby myself, after about a 20 year break. (Okay, that officially makes me sound old...). So much has changed as far as the equipment goes it's almost like starting fresh. Fortunately, my wife is actually *encouraging* me to jump back in. I think she is hopeful that a fairly complex hobby that will keep my mind off work in the evenings will make me a nicer person. Not sure she realizes yet that this means I'll have to cash out our girls' 529s in order to fund the project!

WAV does look awesome. I think at this point I'm committed to the ecotechs.
Once they start shipping wav, you'll see lots of reviews...
I'd wait till then before committing...if you can!
If it's a game changer, I may have to bite....
