Ditto. I prefer not to stick my hands in my tank....damn clownfish...

Ha yea I know what your saying when I clean my 10g my clown goes ballistic and nips at my fingers, it doesn't hurt more of a nuisance because he'll come to the top of the water and splash water all over the place.

Everything looks great in my tank... all coral is feeling happy!:D

Now I am starting to get nervous about leaving....stupid me

Maybe I can just take my tank along with me!!!!

You need a webcam. Subliminal...
We already had security cams all over the house so I can peek at the tank live anytime. I still think about sticking a dropcam on it for closer viewing though...I tried a foscam and it wasn't too bad, just too big..

Mine was abused by a saddleback who I rehomed.. Now that its the dominant fish, it's really marked its territory. It's drawn blood a few times. Always goes for the thin skin on the back of your hand. I should start wearing gloves....

Ya I love the dropcam. Might have to move my daughters to the tank while we are gone

Extra peace of mind. It all adds up...

Just finished wc. Damn my tank loves rscmp!
Mentally working on a water change system. Figuring 2 small brutes, a pump and a couple pvc valves.....or just flex tube with no valves...just a submersible pump..I have a mj1200 just collecting dust..
Not like it takes me more than 15 minutes...just dragging the buckets out, and rolling the big brute in...and the pitcher, etc...
Gotta be a better way..off to make rodi now..

Find it. It will cause an ammonia spike for sure. Also nitrates are too high. Your cycle isn't complete. CUC could make it disappear but not that fast. Unless you have some real big shrimp. They will drag it under a rock and eat till its gone..it's not likely though. It's in there somewhere, use a flashlight and poke around.

Once you find the carcass, start doing 5g wc each day till you get those nitrates down..don't introduce any more livestock either. It's not healthy for them in those changing water conditions. Slow down...

Looked all over no sign of him. Checked ammonia and nitrite both still at zero nitrates now at 5...maybe he floated up to the power head and got shredded? Skimmer is also producing a lot of dark skimmate

I also have a bunch of cheato lit in one of the chambers

I didn't think nitrate levels had to be at zero all the time unless you were keeping sps? I haven't added coral yet

You want to keep nitrates as low as you can nitrates can be toxic to fish, not as much as ammonia but nitrates do accumulate faster.

Depending on what you have for clean up crew, I've seen them decimate a deceased tank mate in hours. If it got sucked into the head, it could've been blended. I had a goby go that way. I had to fight the shrimp for the leftover bits.

I only lost one critter to cleanup crew completely. 3 shrimp and an emerald crab ate my harlequin shrimp. Not a trace. Ever. I think they got him while he was freshly molted.

I'd still do small wc every couple days until your nitrates are .0x. Chaeto will consume some, but not all, and nitrates are toxic to the livestock. It stresses their systems. Coral can take some nitrates, but fish, not so much. I've read that they can get used to some nitrates, but I wouldn't chance it.

During your cycle did you see your nitrite go up, before it went down?
Good to know your skimmer is doing its job!

I got 50 ft of 1/2 inch vinyl tubing from amazon and an aqueon water change kit from amazon. I siphon out the water directly into the sink, then pump the water back in from a 55 gallon bucket in the garage with a maxi600 all the way back into the tank. I also DIY'd a contraption out of PVC that hangs over the side of the tank into the water for refilling. I'll post pics of it later. No buckets. NO mess. esp since I have rugs, furniture close to the tank

The other juvenile clown and my CUC are all fine..
Yes, I got an ammonia spike, then a nitrate spike. The rocks were from a long established tank of a friends so it did cycle pretty fast.

Yes please? I wouldn't dump in my sink...but I can run something like that out the door and into the woods....I have a septic system and last thing I want, is to kill it with sw.
