Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

I think when I get back from Asia, I am going Aquamaxx skimmer... This is part of my 12 step program.. The ghost is just getting APITA

Alright Now that I have my tank up ad running a few questions...

Which chamber is the best one to put the ATO sensor in? Right now I have it in the #2 chamber, this doesn't appear to be right because the level in the #5 chamber where I have my Tunze drops too low.
Where can I find ammonia to aid in the tank cycle? I want to dose with ammonia, but all I can seem to find is scented.

My computer was also infected... I got a email from TB confirming a Vortech MP-10. It must be this forum that is infecting all the computers.:lolspin:

I have it in the return column in the middle. Needs to go there. The other chambers don't drop in water until it's too late and your return pump has not water

Throw a raw shrimp in there, ghost feed, or get dr tims bacteria will all start it. Pick one.

Haha oh I know. It's addicting and you just want get more

Ato, center chamber.. Usually clear plain ammonia can be found at hardware stores. Dr Tims will work too as does the plain raw uncooked shrimp.

I had a good mailbox day as well. Apex PM2 and probe was in there..not as exciting as a mp pump though..

But today is another day and I need to go pick up some more snails, so we will see what jumps in my bag along with them..I swear my shrimp eat about 5 a week....

Really getting tired of waiting for ecotech to get the 3 pro upgrade kits...it's taking a long time. I hope the qd drivers don't take this long...

My car is accidentally going to drive over to the fish store over in the bronx they are talking about. Apparently it is pretty good shop. I teach test prep, so will already be down there. I think it would be sweet to have a hammer garden with different colors.

I started looking at the aquamaxx hob, just can't do it. So big and doesn't hide.

Don't know if you all know about the reef event in the meadowlands in June? One of the biggest on the east coast....many many vendors anxious to take our money...

You are going to have fun with the apex. If you saw how I mounted, I do not have any wires and it looks sweet on the wall... Apex will be easy to figure out. Program has become easy and there is a great forum over on neptunes website.

Jumped back on here precisely for that purpose! haha! I remember being impressed by how clean and organized yours looked. That's going to be the project for the morning. Wife, kids, and grandparents are leaving for the beach on Monday so I anticipate making some real progress while they're gone and the house is quiet. And clean. :)

Apex actually makes this hobby considerable less stressful too. Aside from the automation of it all..its peace of mind.. love all the automation in my house. It really does make life easier...

Absolutely. I am using Perceptive Automation's Indigo on my iMac (ironically down right now due to failing hard disk) as my home automation controller. We have the standard lighting controls and a few scenes programmed based on some variables. It used to really frustrate me to come home and see that the kids had left their lights on all day while we were away, so I setup our security system to send an e-mail to a Gmail address that Indigo monitors when it is armed. Indigo parses that out and turns off any lights that have been left on when the system is armed.

One of my concerns for the reef tank is temperature in the summer. I have Indigo set our thermostat way back while we are gone to school and work, but I'm concerned - particularly in the summer - that the tank might get too hot. I think I'm going to have the Apex turn on a tank fan at somewhere around 78.5 degrees and then if that is insufficient to bring the temp back down, I'll have it fire off an e-mail that Indigo can pick up and parse out. The rule in Indigo will turn the A/C in the house on if the fan on the tank is unable to get the temp back down. It doesn't get insanely hot in the house when the A/C is off, but I'm just not sure what to expect in terms of what the normal heat load will be on the aquarium.

Also definitely plan to setup the feed "scenes" that will shut down the skimmer, etc... And as you mentioned, it definitely gives me some peace of mind to know that I have some additional safety controls that will keep me from cooking my tank inhabitants even if the t-stat on the heater fails.

What do you normally keep your house at during the summer? It is ok for the temperature to swing a little in the tank.. If your house can keep the tank relatively stable, you may not even need the heater during the day... I would stress it too much.

We run our thermostat the same, but we try to keep the house in the mid 70s even when we are not home for the dogs and parrots. The parrots can handle a lot more but we don't subject them to it (slightly spoiled). It doesn't run that much anyway even still. I have never had a high temp alarm on the tanks.. You could consider a chiller if you get real wild temp swings. Maybe even a ceiling fan to keep the air moving? We have them in most living spaces and they really help.

I haven't gone to the extreme of software on my Mac, but I do run a Revolv controller. Runs from my iPhone. Handles most of the chores I need and saves me from launching 10 apps to do what I need..just wish it had a cleaner interface...

Are you satisfied with the HydroFill ATO? Is it too noisy? I'm considering whether to buy it or not for my IM 40.

I don't think anyone is running it. Pretty sure we all are running the tunze 3155. Tunze is a much better product. iMO of course

And they really stand behind their products. I've had issues with my pump dying and they quickly send out replacements. Under warranty of course. For certain things like this, heaters, main pumps etc I keep backups. These things fail at very inopportune times. Nothing like running out in a full panic to buy a heater!

Thanx and anyone using their protein skimmer (skimmate)? I have it and quite happy with it apart from the noise of the aiflow intake...is ghost skimmer better/less noisy? I have my IM40 in the office...

If your going to be on a conference call on speaker right next to the ghost than yes. If you plan on sitting at your desk while on a conference call than it will be perfect. :)

I wonder what would happen if we upgraded the ghost pump? Would it become better? Things I think about while stuck in traffic.

I accidentally bought some more coral. For my daughter :). Not me

I thought about it too. I think best you could do, is upgrade the pump. Not a lot of room down there for much...

I'd love to see a better cup design too..

I got lucky and ultimate is closed today, tomorrow will cost me..

I think I'm going to pass on the flame. As nice looking as it is, I'd hate to have to rehome if it starts eating corals..I'll look for something next time I go to the lfs..I really wish benagi cardinals were more hardy. They are such finicky eaters..

if you are using rscmp salt, what's your alk at? Mine has always run low. Less than 6dkh today, right after a wc no less..everything else was spot on..
