Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Half a cup in....now on my third...
Figured out why the dos was missing doses. I set it up like a pump with fixed running times with fixed output. It's much smarter than that. Now it's set up to deliver 15ml over 24 hours. It pops a .01ml dose on its own schedule to achieve the 15ml over that timespan. Proving software is sometimes smarter than us humans...

Sweet. Glad you got that squared away. I still like the idea of the DOS but going to stick with the brs dosers until I do an upgrade.

Going to take my daughter to the fish store today. She wants to but a fish and some coral

Yea. It annoyed me till I thought it out.....now, it's cool it runs so quiet you barely know it's there.

Still searching for the next fish. I know we are adding another harliquin soon...but need more fishie action....the blenny is hysterical.

Talk to me about the harliquin. Up keep. Who eats them. Etc

They are not easy. They only eat stars. So you'd need an endless supply of choc chip or a gazillion asterinas. The one we had ate a leg every few days. I kept a few stars cut up, frozen. You then have to clean up the leftover bits they don't eat or it will pollute the tank. Figure 10-20 bucks a month in choc chips. Other methods are to keep the star alive in the sump, and remove a leg to feed, and let it grow back. Not for the squeamish....Not much will interfere with them. Ours met its demise during a molt to our crazy skunk shrimp. There was not a single piece of him left...
But, they are beautiful to look at, and observe. Watching them drag a star into their lair and devour it is amazing. I was tempted to give it a whole star until I read that they occasionally escape. Then your coral is at risk of destruction. The leg route is much safer...ugly, but safer. The mrs would leave the kitchen every time I brought a star home....

Ooh...my 500th post...

So I should get one then. I will just freeze the star fish

I'd suggest you dissect the star alive, then freeze the parts. It's easier than trying to break a frozen leg off...feed it a freshly cut leg every now and then because as we all know, fresh is yummier! And yuckier...
Oh, dont save the main body. They don't eat it..

Or you could get a pico tank and cultivate your own, then remove a leg and let it grow back. Keep a bunch of them alive in rotation so they have time to regenerate a new leg..then it'll always have fresh! I considered doing this for our new one.
Just need to find room for another small tank....sadly I sold my 12...

Back to your question. Radion doesn't need an outlet on the eb8. Unless you want a failsafe for high temperature. Neither would the reef radiance. They both use internal controllers to regulate their time and channels. Radion would use the wxm module to communicate to apex. Reef radiance would use the 0-10v port to accomplish its ramping through apex, or run on its self contained controller. Neither dim through the eb, just on and off.

According to Rick, The RR light requires 2 switched outlets. The moonlight isn't controlled with their controller, only the blue and white channels are. He also said that the lights can only be dimmed so far, they will still be lit even dimmed all the way down. It needs a switched outlet to turn it off at night.

Then they changed their controller. Mine would go completely off at a programmed time for all three channels, using the built in controller. Apex control was a bit wonky at that time too as it was a brand new option. I ran the built in controller because it was more reliable than the apex interface at that time. it had very adjustable ramp times and 3 independent channels.... Sounds like it's still not there yet for apex control. IIRC if I switched off the power, the timer would lose its setting, so I left it on always with a high temp statement on the outlet.

Ricks a good guy and he makes a solid product. He stands behind his stuff. He even transferred my warranty to the guy who bought it.

How did you guys shim your stand to level it? Did you put the shims under the feet or just unrest the frame of the stand?

I used those thin felt chair pads. Probably not the best solution though as they settled under the weight of the full system. I'll probably re level it all she she paints...

The sailfin is happy...

Believe it or not, my 1940 cape with original white oak floors were leveled. I got lucky. Reduck was current with the felt pads not being the best. I would use wood shims or even if you can cut down the stand rubber pads. I think they have them, been a while. Pretty sure they do

The stand has the rubber pads, but they can be unscrewed. Dunno if it's better to put it directly on the floor without the feet

No don't put it on the floor. You need ventilation. I think you can adjust the feet. Unless you are super off. I would put shims under the feet

I went to my favorite lfs and they had a harlequin shrimp and got a pretty good deal on it.

Picked up a cc star. Should be fun. Excited for the adventure

It's perfect on left to right but it's leaning outlay forward. The bubble is about 1/4 way into the middle line, so it's very close but not perfect.

I would see if you can find slightly larger stainless steel washers and shim it up on them.

That's a really good idea. Wish I had thought of that. I went with Home Depot wood shims. Didn't need much correction - just a bit on one side.

In other news, proceeds from recent birthday gifts have funded an Avast ATO switch and pump. Decided to get the Apex-ready switch. I opted for the back-up float switch, although I can't really tell from the photos if the float switch will actually fit in the sump. Also ordered 60 pounds of Tropic Eden Reeflakes (more than I needed, but they only come in 30-pound bags). Slowly but surely getting there.
