Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

I believe the Radion has a lot cleaner color, which translates to better coloration of the corals and growth. The daylight setting on the rr was limited too. I couldn't tweak the unneeded LEDs off or adjust the color temp. It was limited to white, blue and moons. It could be different now.

I will still admit I like the color mix of the Kessil better though. I am hoping the gen3 pro update will close that gap.

I was totally torn between the Kessil and the Radion. I visited a (not-so-)LFS and they had both on tanks. I could tell no appreciable difference in the apparent health of the tanks. Corals seemed to be doing well in both. Fish appeared fine in both. Couldn't tell much difference in algae growth. For my eyes, the Kessil looked a bit more natural. The Radion definitely has more control-ability. That was the other reason I went with Kessil... I have been known to get deep into the minutiae and perpetually tinker. I had a feeling that the Radion would be too enticing for me to tinker... and really make my coral mad... not because the light is inferior to the Kessil, but because I'll keep screwing around too much. So that was my decision process for going with Kessil. From what I've seen and read, both are excellent products and I believe it's probably more about personal preference than product superiority between those two.

+1

Agreed. 100%. It's either bmw or Mercedes they say.

I go Volvo and saved money! ( though I have the radion) you get my point

T5's and MH are still king for coral growth and they're both dirt cheap they just don't have the control of LED's. I keep my RR at 20k and have it programmed to ramp the intensity up and down. I don't see what more I could want or need. Where does ecotech get off charging $750? I guess R&D? There no way the parts cost more than $200

Same with the mp10. $200 for a powerhead made in China like all the rest? Give me a break. My Jebeo's do the exact same thing and they were $50

Well on a whim i decided to test my biocube for stray voltage to see what it is. Tested it to ground and got 48V AC. Unplugged the heater and it dropped about 10, Unplugged the pump and it dropped 22V.. and with Nothing else running i still had 16V AC stray in the tank

Another question regarding Radion. My current light takes up 2 spots on my EB8. I know the Radion only needs one outlet, but my question is does it even need a switched outlet or can it be dimmed all the way off without switching off the outlet? I I know the ReefRadiance can't be dimmed all the way off, will only go so low then actual outlet needs to be shut off.

Nothing personal at all but can you tell me whats so great about them for $200 a pop?

285 a pop if you want wireless :)

1. Controllable from the box. Don't need to add a controller to control it. Change different flow right away
2. Can communicate with radion and other pump ( anti-slave mode and switching into night mode when radion goes to moon light/off
3. Appearance. Clean look inside the tank. Doesn't take up a lot of room.
4. No cords running into the tank. Cords on the outside of the tank, so you do not have to worry about stay voltage coming into the tank.
5. Minor. If you have a cordless phone, radio, or other device that runs in the same room, jebao pumps can run static interference.

How did I do? Didn't take it personal at all. You just made me have to prove my reasoning which is great!

Now go buy them!:p

Osiviper, this is a general rant so skip to bottom for my answer to the above question..
Ok, let me get back to the differences for a sec just to clarify where I'm coming from. Everyone has their own preference and everybody sees color differently. I can say this as a fact because it's the business I've been in for 40+ years. I know color. Professionally. I get paid to know it. And I must be good at it because I've worked for the same manufacturer for 30 years.

What matters is not how we see color. What matter is how the corals see color. What I explained earlier is my visual preference in color.
Control to get that color is another thing. Some lights have many LEDs mixing to achieve what that manufacturer tested for best growth, balanced with profitability and customer feedback. Some use better grade LEDs. Some use better drivers and control. Some use both. Some manufacturers use cheaper components to mix the output so it appears to be more balanced. There are many ways to achieve the output we need. Unfortuantly we are a niche hobby so none of them are cheap. Ok, there are some cheap units, but they will not provide anything more that light.

What's most important is what appeals to you visually, and what works for your system. I personally don't care who makes what and what feature they have. What I care about is how it looks to the coral, how it looks to my eyes, and how I can control it to achieve the first two points.
Everyone has their favorite brand. I can't state that ecotech is my favorite brand, but I use radion because it meets the criteria I set for my led. I can control the color to suit my taste and what best for my mix of coral.
Everyone has their own opinion and yes, there are plenty of fanboys of the manufacturers.
There is nothing wrong with tried and true here either, T5 is just that. If you don't mind a higher power bill and can deal with heat build up, they work well.

Bottom line when choosing components, buy the best you can afford, so you don't have to replace it six months down the line when your tank changes.

...I'll get off my soapbox now and ..
Back to your question. Radion doesn't need an outlet on the eb8. Unless you want a failsafe for high temperature. Neither would the reef radiance. They both use internal controllers to regulate their time and channels. Radion would use the wxm module to communicate to apex. Reef radiance would use the 0-10v port to accomplish its ramping through apex, or run on its self contained controller. Neither dim through the eb, just on and off.

It can go all the way off without being plugged into the EB8. My pumps and radions are not in the EB8 due to that reason. You will set it up through ecosmart or apex and have it go to 0%. Very efficient

Not to say you can't achieve the same results with a koralia nano. You can. Just takes more effort....this hobby is demanding enough.

+1 perfectly said. Was this before or after the morning coffee? :)

Fan? Something is causing it.

True, but you need more EB8s or outlets to plug in the controller and pumps....just think of your stand now!!! I don't want to think about it or i will get nightmares.

Half a cup in....now on my third...
Figured out why the dos was missing doses. I set it up like a pump with fixed running times with fixed output. It's much smarter than that. Now it's set up to deliver 15ml over 24 hours. It pops a .01ml dose on its own schedule to achieve the 15ml over that timespan. Proving software is sometimes smarter than us humans...

The horror...the horror..

I had koralia's in my jbj. They worked just fine. I hated the real estate they occupied, but I lived with it...
