Anyone running a Radio XR15 Pro? I noticed some of you guys are running the XR30 (the big daddy version)

I was checking on the EcoTech Website and the XR15 support up to 80 gallons.

Any comments to support either or will be appreciated :)

thanks

if you are ever even remotely going to do hard corals, get the x30. Also, with the dual pucks on the 30 you will have less shadows and more even illumination throughout.

IMO its better to have room at the top of the x30 power band then to run the x15 wfo. I'm running my G3pro at 70% and intend on another 10% eventually.

That would be nearing the very very top of the power of the x15.

In fact, you can buy my Gen1 and update it to Gen3 and save some money!

70%????????? When did this happen? Well done sir. Now that I increased my lighting schedule, my temp has been increasing up into the 79 so I am turning the heater off earlier and let the water climb by the heat of the lights.

70%? Wow, guess I'm gonna have to slowly up my light once all the new corals get here and acclimated..

Might have gone overboard ordering corals..

Ok, 70% at 1pm with clouds rolling in. I eventually want to keep it there without the clouds...but that's a good way of rolling it up without scorching anyone.
I'm telling you the tank loves this light...I never thought I'd say it, but if ecotech gets the kits in, you should go for it...it really makes a difference...
Temp has held around 79 or so with no heat build up yet...but I turned the AC on this afternoon since pollen is insane here..

Once those acros get going you'll need the power!

My tank was getting 65% with the gen 1 when I retired it so it only took a week to get it to 70%*

Been wanting more corals for a long time. Only having 3 (2 now, mushroom got off of rock I glued him too and have'tn seen it since) it is bare looking in the 40.

Went looking around for corals and was thinking, okay; no more than $300 worth. Then I got to $300 and saw another one i wanted so it was $400.. It ended up I just started adding corals I wanted and was at around $1,200.. So I had to cut it back.. Ended up at around $800

Knowing I had all this coming in was good motivation for finally getting the DOS setup and running.

I'm running a xr15pro from a kessil a350 and imo it's a perfect fit. I do have an island type of aquascaping so that could be helping in the shading dept but I have no doubt I can grow sps under it (cause I am =). My tank will never be an sps dominant one though as I have my main tank for that. ( although you can find 2x used xr15 pros for cheaper than a single new Gen 3 pro if you find the deal I just got)

If you want a truly mixed tank the xr15 will do it, if you plan on eventually going mostly sps I'd say the full size version just so you can place the sps everywhere and you won't have the bottoms of them shaded, although eventually acros will outgrow even the larger one and need some supplemental lighting, everyone I know that's all led eventually needs double what they originally thought they would and still combat shading with certain growth patterns on bushy/ tabling acros other SPS species not so much.

And that's exactly how it happens. You go to buy just one piece..and next thing you know..your trunk is full.
Love that dos. Even though it's got it's issues, Neptune has great support. Mine sucks air through the pump heads. I'll have new heads tomorrow in the mail. I managed to alter its setting to compensate for the bubbles...
Now I'm thinking about that ddr. If I get it, I will have to clean the rats nest...

how much Alk and Ca are you adding per day Red?

It's a weird ratio. 8ml cal, 20ml alk. If I run them equal, my alk drops too fast.
I need to retest now with the clam since he'll be consuming a bit more than the rest of the tank. I'll do that Thursday before wc Friday.
I expect it will eventually balance out..or not...that's the joy of reefing...

I have a question about chillers. With the warm weather this week, my tank says it's at 81 degrees. I used to run a chiller on my large system (broken down 5 years ago). Ideally I'd love the temperature to be around 76. I have one LED Radion 15w, so any ambient heat is coming from my MP10 pump and the return pump, skimmer, etc. Any thoughts on what to do? I know I could run fans across the top, but with the cross-board semi-open top, I'm unsure if it would work ... and also if the evaporation rate would be just ridiculous. Thoughts? Chiller options?

A fan across the top does surprisingly well to cool the tank, even with the cross-hatch lid we have. Yes your evaporation will go up, but it won't be insane. Just remember if you put a fan on and have Kalk in your ATO, if you have it balanced now it will be adding more Kalk with the fan evaporating more

When I had a fan on my old tank, I went for good flow, but quiet.
I go for 12V so the speed can be adjusted if needed.

Noctua Makes really good SILENT fans with good air-flow, though they're more expensive, and you need to add in a 12v wall-wart or similar power supply to run it.
