Thank Reduck! So far I have switched out the two baskets for the Caddy's with Chemi Pure Elite and filter floss - not sure what I'm going to do with the other one yet (maybe a huge). Aquamaxx Hob-1 is in 2nd compartment on the left (as you look at the tank from the front). Radio 15W with overhead tank mount is centered. Return pump, heater and probe in middle and still a spare on the right. I have the Innovative Marine top off system, so still to figure out where to put that ... but obviously waiting to add water before I set it up. MP10 pump (just one right now) is on right side of tank. Thanks all for the help! I will hopefully finish setup by mid-week and be ready to add sand, water and LR.

We did. I throughly enjoy Japan, wouldn't mind living there. People that take care of their children and elderly. Most importantly take care of their country by keeping it clean.

Hello there, I am new to this forum and have joined in the hopes of getting some advice, after scouring the internet and coming up empty! I have been keeping saltwater tanks on and off for around 10 years or so, with my most recent being a 29 biocube with h reidi seahorses with easy and compatible corals (zoos, mushrooms, etc). Had a mated pair of h reidi that lived out their 5 or so years of life expectancy then shut the tank down (running with little kids made life kind of busy - no time for the tank!). Recently purchased a IM 40 which I love. Current setup is Tunze 9004 skimmer, two Jebao RW-4 wavemakers, IM Custom caddy setup as a refug with the IM aquagadget fuge light. Lighting is my issue. I currently have a Maxspect Razor 60w in place. Water parameters are all good: Sal 1.024 ;Temp 78; Ammonia 0; Nitrites 0; Nitrates 0; Phosphates <.25 but more than 0; Ph 8.0 Calcium was low at 320 but gradually increasing. My primary purpose for the tank is two pair of seahorses, but want to keep seahorse friendly corals as well. The lighting is not a concern for the seahorses, but I was hoping to be able to keep some LPS corals this time around. However, pretty much nothing I have put in there seems to be happy with the lights, other than a few mushrooms. I have some moon polyps that just closed up and look very unhappy and I lost a purple whip gorgonian. First, I am not sure what the problem is - maybe I had the lights set too high initially? My lfs didn't think there needed to be an adjustment period since they were already under LEDs there, so then I thought maybe there is not enough light? Is this not enough light for the tank in general for the types of corals I would like to keep? Do I need to get a second 60W and link them together, or does this sound like not a light problem at all? Very frustrated cause these aren't complicated corals I am working with! Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome!
60w isn't very powerful for this depth tank. But you should be ok with soft corals. I ran a 50w on mine for a short while and it did ok. Hopefully you didn't just crank it up to full power when you installed it. Soft corals especially will bleach out. Slow acclimation is important.
Try to get your phosphate down a bit. .0x is better. Also, most coral prefer 1.026 salinity. Not sure of the water requirements for sea horses. If they thrive in that water you should be ok. Gorgonians are difficult from my experience. They like high flow and occasional feelings. Mine was eaten by an over active emerald crab.

Hi, thanks! my horses did ok at 1.025 although that is pushing it. Tank is developing nice coralline algae slowly very little green algae, but I also have a pretty substantial snail only crew in there. I did actually have the lights on full blast at first, but quickly switched it - maybe a day or two at most before I lowered the intensity. I was also playing around with them a lot until I settled on a schedule and a color mix that I liked - maybe that is a factor? As for the gorgonian - it pretty much didn't open from the day I put it in the tank. I definitely had it in a high flow spot - thought maybe even it was too much flow. Do you think that one day of too much light was enough to tick everything off?? Thanks so much for the quick reply!

Oh yea. Full power will def po the corals. They need gradual (slow) changes in intensity. Give them time to get used to this light. Maybe they'll come back. I'd think starting them off at even 25% might be too much, especially the ones higher up in the tank.
Gorgonians are fussy. Give it a little time.

So Reduck, what do you do about Magnesium? Do you just dose it manually when the jars of Alk and Calc are empty?

I test for it. I have not needed it yet. Ever. Do wc every 2 weeks w Red Sea coral pro. 10g. Corals are not consuming it apparently. I have been using the 2lf c balance. I have brs standing by when I run out.
Btw, brs recommends using the mag after a gallon of 2 part. I have not even finished a quart of it yet...so maybe by then I will need it..

Reduck - couldn't agree more. I would be perfectly happy to never see Vegas again. Unfortunately about 90% of my key vendors' conferences are held in Vegas. I keep lobbying for them to alternate between Vegas and *anywhere* on the east coast...
So... my Kessil should be arriving from TB Aquatics tomorrow. I ended up with the Aquamaxx HOB-1 in compartment 5 of the sump. I have one IM reactor in #2 and plan to put another in #4. Probes, heather, and return pump are, of course, in #3. I ordered some Tropic Eden sand samples that will be here Tuesday. The shipment from BRS that includes a refractometer, DI canister, and some other RODI plumbing parts will be here Wednesday. I've been running fresh water in the tank for the last 18 hours or so to leak test everything and be sure that the pumps work, etc... We're getting close, thanks in large part to all the great information you guys have provided!

FWIW I also have the HOB 1 and the way I have it setup is the intake draws from chamber 5 and I have the output in the center chamber this way the same water isn't recirculated

I'll start with mine.. My daughter's tank an attempt to be an easy addition to the house and less maintenance than my full blown sps reef in the living room.. It's coming along but far from done/satisfied in my book.. Not impressed with the kessil so the XR15 pro, rms Mount and reef link are in process. Few random.. Diatoms from new sand are finally on the way out ( only real new thing in the tank lol.. Rock is over 2 years old

Anyone running a CPR Aquafuge off of the Fusion 40? I'm contemplating stetting up the small one but was a bit worried about the weight on the tank. I spoke with CPR and they assured me it has never been an issue because if properly balanced the weight is almost 100% straight down on the glass (v. what I imagined would be the weight pulling against the glass).
I'll be posting my tank build soon (including custom stand build).
