Got in touch with Pacific Sun regarding my bluetooth connectivity issues.

Everytime I wanted to connect to the doser, I had to reset the doser then attempt a connection. Usually works. If I disconnected but then decided I wanted to make a change, I had to go reset it again.

I debated on if I wanted to fix this or not for a long while. It sorta works, inconvenient, yes. But it worked.

However, I decided that I paid for a unit that should work without having to jump through hoops so I got in touch with Pacific Sun.

After a few emails asking about the steps I've taken to retify the situation and the equipment, firmware/software versions etc. Adam sent me a 1.5e2 firmware to install. The current version on the website is 1.5b which I already have.

During installation, there was a checksum error and my doser is currently bricked! Yay!
Display shows Bootloader ready but nothing else. So no doser, no ato!
Can't connect to the doser at all. Deleted if from the bluetooth devices to try and establish a fresh connection but no go.

I'm 100% sure its not the bluetooth adapter on my end because I can see bluetooth devices that are downstairs and on the other side of my house. When it worked, I could leave the program searching for the doser and when I reset it, it immediately shows up.

Very frustrating, esp when we are told constantly that there is nothing wrong with the doser and the problem is always on our end!

Currently waiting on a response from Pacific Sun. But honestly, I'm very tempted to go out and pick up an Apex DOS at this point.

Have you tried the emergency connect (or something like that) or connecting while holding in the reset button on the back of the doser?

Its ver 1 so there is no reset button and there is no emergency connect. Not as far as I know and there is no documented procedure anywhere that I've found.

Even with early ones I thought there was either a reset button or a small recessed button of the type you push using a pen or pin?

On the service tab of the Windoze software there used to be an emergency connect button.

I see the tab but my bluetooth adapter can't even find the doser so I get a port error. Ver 1s don't have a reset button. There is a tri-state switch but as far as i know, that only controls the display brightness.

You can't push it in or something to reset and you have checked for the pinhole switch I mentioned? It would be quite unusual for hardware like this to have no reset.

No idea why your adapter cannot find the doser but whatever radio they used was never particularly receptive.

If you can get a bluetooth connection then the emergency connect should help you sort things out.

Yup. Looked at the back of the unit and there isn't a pinhole. There is a hole where the speaker is but that's it. Everything else is a plug.

Hi
1.All dosers include antena in package - please check your box carefully again, it should be inside special bag. However if you cant find it you can ask our service for sending new one - or simply use any WiFi antena with SMA plug(like Wifi access points, routers etc).
2. Both version of dosers have reset switches - in new one it's a small hole, on first generation - thri-state switch which have functions: LCD backilght on/LCD backlight off/Reset
@vhuang
If you got CRC error during firmware update it mean that something wrong was with transmission:
a) weak signal - you were too far away
b) if you were close - it mean that your bluetooth module have too small output power(probably it built into your laptop and have small power radio(enery saving but not too strong for serial transmision).
If it will happen again(CRC error) you can try to use any other, external USB Bluetooth -it will fix that problem.

Now, when you have doser memory erased you need to use external reset button to start uploading firmware again:
1) Open app - choose proper COM port - don't click Connect on this tab.
2) Go to last tab - push firmware update button - choose firmware file and confirm by enter.
3) Now - quickly move up/down (and back to initnial position) reset button - on LCD you should see "Uploading firmware button".
If it will not help - write to service@pacific-sun.eu

About Distributor - we have new Distributor, it's DeepWater - they should have stocked all our products very soon.We also plan to back here for supporting all North America Customers.

a) I was less than 9ft away

b) external class 1 Bluetooth attached to a desktop

The update firmware option is not open to me. There is no com port listed.

Doser is stuck at Bootloader ready screen.

I cannot connect to it because I deleted the doser from my Bluetooth devices and now can't find it again.

If I can reset the doser so that it starts looking for Bluetooth transmitters again, then it might work.

Would have helped if the reset was documented.

Do I just flip the switch to the bottom then back to the top while the doser is powered on? Or do I flip it down, while the doser is powered off, then plug the power supply in then flip it back to the top?

Tried various ways of flipping the switch and cycling the power but only get the same "Bootloader ready" screen.

Computer still can't find the doser so it's still a fancy paperweight at the moment.

Last email to Pacific Sun was Sunday the 31st telling them the firmware update failed. Last email from them was Thursday the 28th when they asked me to update a new firmware.

Customer support at this point leaves much to be desired!

Dosing and topping off by hand at the moment. Good thing the tank is small. If I had my 245g running now, you can bet I would have already picked up another brand of doser to replace.

I think you guys need to rethink this support from your end! The time difference alone sucks because there is almost a day between when someone asks a problem and you guys see it then another day before we see it so the turnaround is 2 days at the least before we get a response!

Hi
We are EU based company and our working time is 8:00 to 16:30(local time).
I think that if you are not able start firmware recovery something has be wrong - maybe your Class 1 module has too small output power?(Class 1 mean compatibility with some protocols - not only output power).
I think that best idea will be contacting with our service@pacific-sun.eu department and they will send you detailed step by step procedure - I'm almost sure that you missed something during this procedure or you ar 3not doing it on proper order.
But firstly - be sure that used by you bluetooth module have 100mW output power - we dont suggest using any built into your laptop(until you are not using Macbook Pro/Air which have very good radios)
You can try firmware update using any from followign app also(for Windows, Mac OS X and Android based devices).

Windows app 64bit:
http://www.pacific-sun.eu/download/PSunFlash64.exe
Windows app 32bit:
http://www.pacific-sun.eu/download/PSunFlash32.exe
Mac OS X app:
http://www.pacific-sun.eu/download/PSunFlash-3.zip
Android:

If you will have any other questions or need more advanced troubleshooting please send mail to service directly - thank you very much.

I have an email to Adam since Sunday and I've not heard back as I've stated in my post above.

The adapter I'm using has 20dBm (which converts to 100mw) output with a range of 330ft.

http://www.trendnet.com/products/USB-adapters/TBW-106UB#tabs-solution02

I'm very tired of your company always pointing to our choice of Bluetooth adapters as the reason why things are not working. Maybe you should include a Bluetooth adapter that you deem worthy of use with every doser that you sell!

Is there a way to get the doser to only dose during the night time? Say I wan't to dose acropower only during lights out? What is the proper procedure/settings for that?

I think its time that PacSun makes an application for phones to connect via bluetooth or wifi. I find the interface of the application very clumsy and lacks user interface.

Also, I tried dosing vertical about 2 feet since my doser is lower than my tank and it always back siphoned...what could be causing this?

Borrowed a Macbook pro from neighbor to try something different. The OS X download on the website is for 1.4H beta. Doesn't have update firmware button.

The link you listed above for OS X app is 404 webpage not found.

Guess I'm going to have to spend another day manually dosing and topping off while I wait for you to wake up tomorrow and get to this or the email I sent. This is what I meant about the time difference.
