Pacific Sun Kore 5th dosing Fan Club

I have an email to Adam since Sunday and I've not heard back as I've stated in my post above.

The adapter I'm using has 20dBm (which converts to 100mw) output with a range of 330ft.

http://www.trendnet.com/products/USB-adapters/TBW-106UB#tabs-solution02

I'm very tired of your company always pointing to our choice of Bluetooth adapters as the reason why things are not working. Maybe you should include a Bluetooth adapter that you deem worthy of use with every doser that you sell!

Hi
We are sorry that you not get reply from Adam mailbox.
As I mentioned previously - please forward all mails to service@pacific-sun.eu directly also - yesterday Adam Okun had car accident and he is out from work till Friday.
Please forward that mails to main service mailbox - they will reply you asap.
Thank you for understanding and again - we are sorry for long waiting.

Regards

This is what I meant about the time difference.

You can't hate on them for the time difference. We all knowingly ordered the doser from a small company in Europe and knew what we were getting into.

Hopefully as they attempt to expand into the US again the distributor over here and handle some of the questions but still it's not right to blast them for the time difference.

Borrowed a Macbook pro from neighbor to try something different. The OS X download on the website is for 1.4H beta. Doesn't have update firmware button.

The link you listed above for OS X app is 404 webpage not found.

Guess I'm going to have to spend another day manually dosing and topping off while I wait for you to wake up tomorrow and get to this or the email I sent. This is what I meant about the time difference.

Our Mac OS X app(default app) dont have possibility for updating firmware - we have written dedicated app for that purposes.
Please check link again - if you will have any questions regarding it please send them directly to our service.
Thank you.

Is there a way to get the doser to only dose during the night time? Say I wan't to dose acropower only during lights out? What is the proper procedure/settings for that?

I think its time that PacSun makes an application for phones to connect via bluetooth or wifi. I find the interface of the application very clumsy and lacks user interface.

Also, I tried dosing vertical about 2 feet since my doser is lower than my tank and it always back siphoned...what could be causing this?

Hi
Yes, there are dedicated special programs - called C5 and C11.
C5 mean that doser will dose 5 times hour by hour - so if you will set first dosing time at 1:00am - it will dose at:
1:00am
2:00am
3:00am
4:00am
(total 5 doses)
The same is about C11 - it will set 11 following doses hour by hour.
If you want protect agains siphoning - remember about NOT putting tube output under water level.
Additionally, if we are talking about liquids doses(not ATO) - you can use check valves which will protect you against backing liquid into containers.

We already have new sole Distributor in USA - it's DeepWater.
We will supply them with all needed parts, knowledge and everyhting other which is needed for supporting our actual and future Customers.
Of course - our national Service is always ready for supporting all Customers worldwide.
Thank you for your understanding.

Ok what is the exact procedure for the tri state switch?

I have it currently in the UP position so the LCD is displaying "Bootloader ready"

After I select the firmware and hit enter, I flip the switch all the way down then back up again?

I've tried up then all the way down then up,

I've tried down then up

I've tried down then up then middle

Nothing works. I eventually get a operation timed out error.

This is with a laptop sitting less than 3 ft from the doser with a 100mw bt adapter so its NOT the adapter.

Display only ever shows "Bootloader ready" in fact I've had it on so long with that screen its burned into the screen. When I turn off the display I still see it faintly!

Got my replacement float switch from Poland today, this time around the packaging is much much better than the optical sensor they send me two month ago, where the acrylic holder broke in 2 during the transit.

Will test out the replacement and see if that solves the problem.

same thing when I flip the float 180 degree, low sensor :1 when in down position, putting the RCA jack in the correct way, red to red, black to black, now the lower sensor : 0 when the upper float is in the up position, something is clearly wrong here.

Temp probe doesn't work either as it's showing 0C

You can see here the lower float is in down position which should have activated the switch.

As I mentioned above - please contact with service@pacific-sun.eu for more advanced troubleshooting because our service not doing technical support thru forums like ReefCentral. Probably they will send you additional informations/solutions what you can try to restore your firmware.
Getting CRC error on 100mW module(from few meters distance) is hard to understand - we never get similar issue report(it happened only when Customer use internal, weak BT modules which work nice with mouse or headphones but not with serial port communication devices).
But more information you will get from our service.
Thank you.

@Africangrey
Good to hear that, please let us know how its working for you.

Exactly - you need to do that within 1 second - from "normal position" to Reset(LCD will be blank) and back immediately to normal position)

I was not putting the dosing tube under the water. It was elevated off the water surface. When the pump stopped dosing you would see the liquid fall back down the tube.

Anyone got a solution to this one? I have exactly the same problem and have tried the proceedure maybe 20-30 times to no avail.

External bluetooth on my laptop is fine :deadhorse:

I gave up and pulled the unit off my aquarium. I replaced it with a different unit for the time being so my tank still gets dosed while I take a breather from the frustration and will try to get it fixed again later.

Good luck and let us know if you get it to work.

Sorry, I did not capture anywhere talk about this, so asking here...

Have this Kore 5th doser a internet access? I know it has wireless connection, but I want to make sure I can control it while out of town.

Thanks.

Nope. Only Bluetooth. No internet access. No control except through a Windows computer or Windows/Android tablet. Mac software is still beta and iOS app is non existent.

Kore 5th actually can be controlled only by Bluetooth modules so wireless control from internet is not possible(yet).
We plan to finish new protocols and modules which allow Customers to control doser from any place in the world.

For Mac OS X you can find stable and official version of software/firmware here:
Software: http://www.pacific-sun.eu/download/Kore_5th_1.5d.zip
Firmware: http://www.pacific-sun.eu/download/kore_5th_1.5d.bin

iOS don't exist because iOS dont support Bluetooth RFCOMM protocols - thats why we are releasing module which add WiFi to actual Bluetooth module.
It will be compatible with all actually sold Kore 5th units.

Connection procedure takes 5-10 seconds not longer. If it take more time it mean that something is not ok with communication(wrong COM port, not proper settings etc)

If you see info about Bootloader on LCD(you wrote that its the same issue like in above post) it mean that you need upload new firmware to your Kore5th because actual is erased.
Please contact with service@pacific-sun.eu - they will tell you how you can upload new firmware using any of following devices: Windows, Mac OS X or Android app.
Thank you.

Does the switch need to be flicked all the way to the 3rd/bottom position of just to the middle position and back to up?

iOS, remote access, etc, etc, are not possible because you chose to use Bluetooth and persist with it. I can connect wirelessly to my car's computer and reliably program it because they used the wifi standard.

iOS not available - that's Apples fault...

Shaky connections to laptops - that's the fault of our weak Bluetooth radios in the laptops and we need to upgrade...

Essentially, anything that isn't working as well as it could is somebody else's fault and nothing to do with PS.

At some point you really should have network-enabled your devices as there are numerous advantages. Old devices using Bluetooth could have been network-enabled by the bridge that you never managed to get working. I presume this is the mythical device you have again referred to. How many years now?

At some point you need to look at your model and not blame everything and everyone else.

No need to reply or discuss.

Hi Griff
Nice to see you again - we can expect your reply every time when this thread is on top ;-)
Some facts - not blames.
1. iOS DON'T support RFCOMM - serial port communication. To be more precise - it support, but request from companies buying their own chips which will encode this protocol and allow to use serial communication with any SPP devices.
2. It's a FACT that all new laptops have energy saving bluetooth modules which have very small output power - which can cause several issues with connections. There is several posts from Customers(also here) which confirmed that changing BT to external modules - it fixed their connection issues on 100%.
3. Before you will start talking abou tany faulty - please focus on fact that something can be simply sourced by:
- choosed not proper COM port in app
- wrong drivers used by computer
- other important facts which can cause communication
But we are not leaving our Customers without any support - almost all issues(with communcation) reported by Customers to our service were SOLVED without any technical repairs/fixes our hardware.
4. For your knowledge - BT protocols are newer that WiFi ;-) and they are still used by several proffesiona devices and manufacturers(in aquatic industry - by Giesmann for example)
All communication layers have their own pros and cons - bluetooth is much easier to setup and use than any other. I can point you several threads where other devices users make complains about Wifi/USB connections. This make them faulty? Not. Our Kore 5th from the beginning was designed as BT controlled device with dedicated apps for Windows/Mac. Some other manufacturers use Wifi layer(but you still need to have Windows based computer to do firmware upgrade etc).
5. I would like to not discuss with you about "mythical" devices. I understand that you would like prefer to get not checked(and not 100% working device like Cube bridge) earlier - than later, but after full tests/properly checked. It's not so easy to do all this things - if it would be, many other manufacturers would like to do the same(like native apps for Mac OS X) which are still not avalaible.
I dont know anything about your source of inforations about that "mythical device" but I worry that your informations are "quite wrong".
Finally - we are looking at our model and we never said that its "bugs free". There is no any "bugs free" devices on market. Our IT team is working hard and release updates after all bugs reported to our service and confirmed by our programmers.
But you need to look for that from technical point of view - if something is working for 95% of Customers and not working for rest 5% - the issue is almost in 99.9% sourced by remote system(Customer computer settings/hardware) not by designer mistake.
It's simply rule which is proven in many different industries.
But - without any doubt - and as I informed previously, we never left Customers without support and we help them in their computer settings/configuration.
"No need to reply or discuss"
Sure, so after my reply we can finish it. If you would like to discuss about that in the future please be in touch with me directly. It will be my pleasure to reply all your mails directly.
Thank you.

@bimborocks
Please contact with our service@pacific-sun.eu directly - if it will be needed they will do remote sesion with your compter and halp you setting up your doser. Don't worry ;-)
