Padrino's 220 Upgrade

Here are some updated pics from the fishroom. I have finished the floor drain as well as the drain in the wall for auto water changes. I have fixed some framing to accommodate some changes I made and started insulating the floor with okafoam pads to reduce the cold coming through the concrete floor. I installed boxes for the sconce lighting but i just picked up my first one and I think ill have to raise all of them another 8-12".

I will have a total of 5 of them in the fish room area. The other 4 will be in on Thursday :)
 
If it matches your upstairs room I would imagine that tiling your stand with stone would look really nice. That gets my vote!
 
I also vote for natural stone for the stand. I like it so much that I want to do an accent wall in my house with it. Check out walls done with ledge rock or stack rock.

Thanks Alex.
I would assume that I would then have to continue on and tile the rest of the walls on either side so that it looked part of the wall and not just put in place.
This is currently where my head is at right now. I need to finalize a tile and then figure out how I will incorporate the cold air return and how Ill finish the job in terms of transitions.

This is exactly what I was thinking. In fact, here are two samples I found while shopping for my powder room tiles (project started and completed over holidays, just waiting for fixtures to arrive). These photos were taken with my phone for reference but i'm thinking something like this,

Not sure how an outside corner would work with this?

I'm not sure how a corner is done with tile. I'm sure how-to sites or someone at the store can give advice? I was looking at some artificial stuff that looks amazing. It's light weight and you can buy special corners. Its pricey though...about $15-16 per sq/ft.

I think that's right about where this stuff is worth however its natural stone meaning it will be very porous and will hold any odors. I will have to seal the sh*t of this stuff. I have seen other products similar that i liked more, just forget where I saw them
 
Here is a preliminary stand design. Main frame will be constructed out of 3/16" wall thickness steel structural tubing. I think its overkill for this tank however I may remove some if I can,

So i've made a few changes to the stand design and added a couple pieces to allow me to tie in the existing walls in so I can make this look like its part of the wall.

Here is the latest revision. Steel has been ordered, delivered and will be cut to size over the next couple days. I'm hoping to have this stand welded up and ground clean by the end of the week, then off for sandblasting and bedliner.

oh two weeks ago I went on a road trip and picked up 160 lbs of ECO rock and 300 lbs of oolitic sand for my refuge that will be in the middle of my sump in the future.

I hope to make some pillars and/or landscape for this tank ahead of time and allow it to cure in ro/di water to prevent any unwanted algae blooms.

Thanks for the link. The more I look at this stuff, the more I am gravitating to it. It is beautiful and has amazing corners. I have a 7" diamond blade tile table saw but i'm not sure it would be big enough to cut some of that cultured stone. There are a few that I really like. I have submitted a form to find the nearest Canadian dealer.

You are welcome. The guys who did our fireplace used an angle grinder for most of the cuts. Makes a nice, hand honed look on the edges. I think they make outside corner pieces since you were wondering how that worked. Something to inquire about as you get more info from your distributor. ;)

That is tilemaster, I've been in there many times over the holidays as I renovated my bathroom, but I don't recall seeing that stuff, I will have to go back and doublecheck. I think there is a place on Tiffin that sells it.

I was able to get the stand welded up and then ground down flush. Here are some photos before I bring it to get sandblasted and coated. The stand is made from structural steel tubing with a 3/16" wall thickness. Its quiet heavy.
