Painting eggcrate and back of glass?

I prefer 1/4" clear bird's nest netting to egg crate as it blocks less light and fish can and will jump out of egg crate. Is your tank glass or acrylic? You need a paint designed for use on plastics if the tank is acrylic.

BRS also carries black egg crate. I just bought 2 squares on Thursday. I would go for netting over your tank though, black egg crate is better for making frag racks or mounting rocks so they don't move around in a bare-bottom system.

can't you use a reptile lid or no? wouldn't it do the same purpose as clear mesh or am i wrong?

If it's the metal screening they often use it could rust.

BRS carries both black eggcrate and the pond/ bird netting along w/ screen kits, the netting and screen kit would be my choice for a top.

I learned this today. Egg crate regardless of its use in this hobby will block light into the tank regardless of its square open spaces. It is sold and considered a light "diffuser" What I actually did today was buy a storm door frame kit and some clear screen cut the framing to size with aviation sheers and now I have a perfect top. The kit was $11 and I got the screen for free from my LFS

if you provide the screen home depot will actually make the "screen window" (or lid as we would use it for), and cut it to size/ assemble it for only the cost of the framing.

I got my netting off e-bay. cheaper and free shipping. framing was bought at home depot. I had the crate for the first two years and never lost a fish, but the clear netting is the best cover for your tank.
