Paired fish question

I got a really nice pair of dottybacks from J.C. at ReefEnvy's table, and they acclimated, but as soon as they hit the tank, they dove into opposite corners, and now all I see is that there is at least one that hides under the rock pile, towards the back of the tank. I can't tell if it's one or two, because it's so far back that it's really dark. Anyone know if they're social fish, or if they'll ever come out, or how good pairs are at finding each other again?

Thanks ahead of time,

Eric

i saw that pair and they were fighting in the bag. even the guys at teh table next to me said somthing( actualy he poined it out when you walked by)

give them some time they will come out and hang near teh rock * never fully in th open water)

that's weird. They didn't fight at all during quarantine and acclimation (when they were closest to each other in smallest quarters). I know for sure that I keep seeing at least one in the rocks, but I don't know if both are still there.

So basically they probably wern't a pair :(. O well. Hopefully then I have 2 dottybacks? Hopefully they're also as reef friendly as I was told....

I wanted a new fish, and I saw the pairs, and wanted a pair. I didn't want clowns because I don't have an anemone, already have a clown, and have been looking at paired firefish for a long time. Since they looked similar, and were reef safe, I figured I got a decent replacement pair.

Hopefully at least they'll be nice fish to have regardless.

ohyeah they certinly will be

but its possiable that they just were fighting cause of the bag ( kinda like if ya lock 2 married people in the same room for the say lol)

Just an update, but they're definitely a pair, and they both survived the introduction fine. They swim around the tank a ton, and are really beautiful fish. The male has gotten larger, and the female has shrunk (assuming that the males are bigger, like in some species, but not sure..) They're very social, and I've even seen the male steal a big chunk of nori out of the mouth of my sailfin (10x the size and weight of the dottyback) and jump with it into the rocks. I'm very happy with my purchase from ReefEnvy!

That's great! Congratulations! The female was probably getting everything arranged in the "house" before she got out to check out the neighborhood!

Firefish are great too...they are easy to pair up too from what I heard. I even had a firefish and a scissortail dart fish hang out together too.

I really REALLY wanted paired firefish, because I love firefish, but I heard that they're really hard to pair up and that they'll often fight to the death :( If only there was one source of information :p

I have a purple and red and Ive never seen any aggression between them. a pair would be nice though!!

Rogger, Thanks for the offer. I'm making a mental list of all the things I need to see once I decide to bite the bullet and drive out to weston again :p So far we have the firefish pair and the ER meshwheel... heh But thank you for the offer!

I think that the female dottyback may be pregnant. pregnant or starving :( she's got a really large foward bulge. I dont' know which it is though. I feed cyclopeeze so it circulates to EVERYWHERE in the tank, providing a good meal, and I feed NYVPs seafood/nori blend too, which blows around a good ammout as well. I hope she's just pregnant!

i recently got two wt angels paired. Well i had to get the male out and back to lfs bc female was torturing him to the death, btw hes fine and already at another setup/go figure i'm left with the female
