Pairing help!!

I have a white barred Marroon clown, and i am trying to pair it up.

I got a genderless clown and she did pick on him for a while then he went and hid and has been for the last two days.... The female would go and look at him then swim away....

Im wondering should i move the clown into her sight in something she cant get to him in because where he is now she cant see him.

and to tell you the truth i think she forgot he was there.

I found her a little while ago chasing after the genderless clown he came out


his fin is torn up

so i put him under a bottle with holes drilled into it so she can see him

am i doing everything right?

Pairing maroons is probably the hardest thing to do. Female maroons are extremely mean animals. Keeping the smaller maroon isolated in plain view is your best bet, but not a guarantee.

Yes, very hard and could take months to years to pair..

Buy the smallest maroom you possibly can. The smaller the easier it is to do. I have done it several times and if you get tiny m,ales, success is about a 50/50 shot

Make sure the smaller one is at least half the size of the Large one. I have a pair of gold Bars that are 10 years old and the female is close to 3 times the size of the male!

I used an isolation container with a top and placed it in the tank so she could see him, but not get to him. I started by placing him out of sight and way out of the way of where she claimed was hers and moved it closer every few days.

I lost him a while later, but I don't think she did it.

When selecting one, you want the runt of the litter that is shy and not aggressive in anyway, shape, or form.

Pretend your a casting director and your looking for the new "fish" in a prison movie. The role of the "affectionate" cell mate will go to the big girl. You want to pick one that will not fight too much and accept thier role in the relationship easily.
